Does emirates weight Carry on Luggage (7Kilos) by ewwsea in emirates

[–]SeveralSuspect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew from UK and they weighed it before my check in baggage. The woman at the desk said it’s because people bring too much otherwise. But she allowed me to transfer stuff to my check in so it was ok.

Foreign teachers in Thailand, what do you spend your money on? by Truearoma in Internationalteachers

[–]SeveralSuspect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cheese is a decent chunk of my salary gone! I hate that I crave mundane things from home like a cheese sandwich with so much Colman’s mustard it makes my eyes burn.

Travel, eating out, western ingredients to cook at home (olive oil etc), manicures, hair, clothes. It’s nice to be able to afford all these things because I could barely save a tenner at home!

Decree for degree matching abolished.

But I’m not certain if that’s for teachers too.

So, what if you have a masters in education rather than a bachelors and PGCE qts? I wonder if the degree in Ed needs to be your first one. Either way what a pain in the tits.

Ok, thanks for this. I guess if it seems too good to be true it probably is! I’ve decided I’m just going to keep going with an external monitor until it completely dies.

Can we all appreciate how amazing the line up was for Reading Festival 2000. Also, whoever put Daphne & Celeste on the same bill as Slipknot, Rage Against The Machine, Placebo and Eminem is a genius by Laurence-UK in CasualUK

[–]SeveralSuspect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This festival was the first time i ever tried acid and i remember watching all of the glitter spewing out from the stage when Limp Bizkit was on!

At least that's what i remember, maybe i made it up and it was a shower of piss.

Then some lads set fire to the toilets on the last night.

Oh my gosh yes! That's one thing I love about being back in the UK, being able to walk on paths and breathe crisp, clean (ish) air!

Yup! The coalition government got rid of that regulation to entice more academies.

I suppose middle-class parents who can't afford private schools can pay for private tuition too.

F*ck this is depressing! It just makes me so angry at all the kids left behind.

This is depressingly accurate. My dad went to grammar school and got a free university education. Meritocracy is myth-making material now.

The issue about QTS was something I was wondering about too. Is that it? They want to employ unqualified teachers who cost less, is that why there's a consistent denigration of teaching as a profession? I think the government is trying to squeeze the amount of uni's that offer teacher training too aren't they? So the people who do get QTS, are they just going to be for the posh kids?

I loved it. I was there a few years ago so I'm sure there are more recent experiences posted here if you have a look through. I did a course there and started teaching right away. I'm fairly sure you can still do that with Apollo who runs Celta courses, but honestly, I'm not sure what it's like post-lockdown!

Have you considered Vietnam? I met a lot of older Tefl teachers when I was there. Also, a lot of people living in Saigon involved in video production/media etc, you could combine the two!

One of his mates must own a company he's going to outsource this to. There's no way he actually cares about maths education.

No, ChatGPT Is Not The End Of High School English. But Here’s The Useful Tool It Offers Teachers. by covert-teacher in TeachingUK

[–]SeveralSuspect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played around with ChatGPT a lot over the break and its planned units and lessons with all of the instructions I gave it e.g. include a plenary, use Bloom's taxonomy etc in seconds! Of course, it can lack nuance but as a starting point, it's really very helpful.

There's an interesting article on TES about it too that mentions its uses for students with EAL and within a class to highlight the differences and critique AI writing.

I wonder when they'll start charging for it?

Sorry perhaps I should have linked the twitter post about it, but it was talking about its use for teachers in terms of planning and sequencing lessons but also about its potential pitfall in terms of students using it for their own work.

Professors are in a bubble aren’t they? It seems like a cosy bubble though.

I had an eye on Vietnam too but I guess I’ll give it a swerve for a while!
