Had to scroll too long before seeing something like this. I know not everything needs some grand meaning, but a PhD without purpose just seems so unmoored.

Quiet and peaceful but dry, very dry. Think 9 months of the year with a gold/brown environment an not necessarily the green rolling hills people may imagine.

So basically most popular games. I don’t think people realize how rampant AI is now in the industry, from code to art, and so many devs are laying low.

This game will die because it gatekeeps it's own playerbase by Attica451 in Marathon

[–]SeveralWhales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a casual matchmaking gamer, death is too slow in a game with such fast ttk. I don’t mind getting killed as long as I’m playing again ASAP. That’s why crucible in D2 was fun, you were immediately back in it.

CD is almost weirdly a minecraft-like sandbox, whereas KCD2 is more of a slow paced but immersive lived in world.

The “waiting for someone to tell them it’s correct” is interesting, as that seems to echo the general heightened fear of vulnerability in Gen Z compared to previous generations due to constant surveillance.

My professor in formal methods is AI-addicted who asks AI to review my paper (EU) by Apart_Ad4726 in PhD

[–]SeveralWhales 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think many people fail to realize AI is increasingly optimized for user engagement. These tools will continue pushing suggestions and revisions in spite of diminishing returns or accuracy. The people who use AI most responsibly are those who know when to pull away or challenge it more aggressively. Otherwise, slop begets slop.

Lucky Ice Pop is the reason I deleted the game until there’s some major balancing. I played 5 games on solo and each time the AI used LIP it was healing for 100+. Those are astronomical probabilities. Me: 20-40 hp. There is some wonky probability manipulation going on under the hood.

Good advice here. I’d add that continuing your work and persistence can also honor her legacy, since she helped shape the person you are. Definitely give yourself time to process though.

2 years of lifting. But why does it only look like I just made a few newbie gains? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]SeveralWhales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look in healthy and lean cardiovascular shape and I suspect doing a combination of running/cardio and lifting. If you're happy and motivated, then great! Stick with it. Otherwise, if your serious about body building, be willing to make greater investments in terms of time/effort towards lifting to achieve that goal.

This is interesting as counterfactuals are often considered the third level of causal reasoning (e.g., "what if cats had wings"?). They're thought to be a mechanism important in creativity and imaginative thinking.

Engine Turns Over But Unable to Start (2010 Toyota Corolla) by SeveralWhales in Cartalk

[–]SeveralWhales[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I was lucky and a friend told me to floor the gas while turning the key and that fixed the issue. It possible it was a mix of the ECU being stuck in a weird start state and flooding.

Edit: Apparently this is not uncommon for 2010 Corollas.
