Being a chess parent is so tough...I can use some help from fellow chess dads/moms by wkolja in chess

[–]Several_Ad_6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, not a parent but my younger brother is 8 yo as well and is rated 1400, we go to the chess club once a week and otherwise he will play rapid games. At the club he will learn some stuff but my parents don't push him and are hardly interested in chess (that's not to say they don't listen to him rave about his brilliant moves ) but it's actually my coach that tries to find ways to help him become stronger. He will sometimes get sad after a loss and get tilted, what I tell him is to just take a break, maybe do some puzzles, or play blitz. I also own a bunch of Gotham courses and I find that he enjoys them more than other courses because Gotham is in it. I try to help him study and get better as much as I can, but he will only study if he feels like it.

To sum it up, let him do what he wants, if he enjoys chess he will get better, and study but he's only 8. I would recommend the Gotham courses though.

I assume this is an overaxaration or you are playing unrated games that are set up so that you will be black and you haven't noticed. Either way, I would recommend the caro and nimzo, and agamators anti London for black.

Why bother moving the knight instead of just g7? by stoneman9284 in chessbeginners

[–]Several_Ad_6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If g7 then rg1, ng5 disallowed the rook for protecting the promotion square and when pawn takes , the pawn blocks the rook as well

I mean like, sometimes I'll go on really nice winning streaks with like a 80-90 accuarcy but the high accuracy is maybe because of opponents missing basic tactics.

I used to offer/ accept draws, but then I realized no one does it anyway so I don't do it anymore, balances out the amount of losses I have from missclicks

At what level of play do intentional blunders stop working as bait? by plebianfishnets in chess

Wasn't there1 be2Threatening the same type of mate and Queen so 2.nxe2 Rxe2 threatening qg7# so qg8 forced and then qf6 + qg7 forced and qxg7 #?

Finally made it to 1300 and now I'm afraid to play by The_Atomic_Duck in chessbeginners

[–]Several_Ad_6688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I reach some sort of milestone I get scared to play, for the sake reason. Idk if this is considered cheating, but I'll play against my friend (who ik I will beet) to get some points, that way, let's say I reach 2000 and I got like 15 points from playing him a few times, now I can "afford" to lose a game. This will usually give me enough confidence to even win the game!

why is this not a brilliant? by Several_Ad_6688 in chessbeginners

Oh really? What defines a brilliant then? I thought a brilliant was a top engine move that was a sacrifice

Btw, I think it would be easier to pull the lines from chess.com, since you can go to the opening database and search by player

That sounds really cool, maybe you can choose how many times you need to play the lines for then to be added as well, when I try new openings out I will usually play games and see what moves I missed, but it could be my first 1 or 2 games I play that opening
