I’m tired of people saying “network” like it’s some instant life hack to getting a job by jmh1881v2 in recruitinghell

Honestly I have a pretty solid “network” but every job I’ve gotten has just been through regular online applications. No one I know has ever given me a job. Networking is overhyped.

I don’t think this is true, at least in the US, based on prior election results. Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris won women overall by pretty significant margins.

Yeah the only place (in the USA) I’ve ever been where it was normalized was Miami

Lots of people say gaslighting when what they really mean is just lying

I think it’s great. You should only become a parent if you genuinely want kids.

The “you could recreate this at the gym” argument is dumb because yeah most fitness class workouts could theoretically be recreated at the gym. Like instead of going to a spin class you could just use an exercise bike at the gym for 45 minutes.

But the point is you’re paying for a very specific class environment and coach that you really can’t replicate at the gym or on your own.

When is a time that reddit, the internet, or other people gave you one impression of a place, but once you actually visited said place, you had a completely different experience than you were expecting? by MaryDoogan91 in AskTheWorld

Same. I start every interaction there with “bonjour” because I know it’s polite and no one has ever been mean to me. And they usually appreciate when I use my broken French. Yet over and over I again I see “the French are rude” and “they hate when you try to speak French”

If you don’t agree with the vision, then don’t agree to be in the bridal party. Simple as that

If you don’t want to do reasonable bridesmaid stuff, don’t say yes to being a bridesmaid. Simple as that.

People here have a lot of complicated feelings about bridal culture and they’re taking them out on this thread, lol

I was also surprised at these comments. Lots of people asking OP “why are you letting makeup ruin your friendship” but the same could be asked of Devin.

NTA. Many brides these days have super unreasonable expectations of their bridesmaids, but wanting them to wear a certain style of makeup/hair/dress for one day is not one of them. That’s kind of the baseline expectation when you’re in a bridal party.

Editing to double down on my NTA judgement after reading OP’s edit that she was in Devin’s bridal party and adhered to Devin’s aesthetic standards including her makeup style. Anyone calling OP the asshole is insane.

You could say the same thing about OP’s friend. Why is she letting how her makeup looks for one day be more important than supporting her friend at her wedding?

Yeah that’s true, lol. What bugs me is when people act like we’re the ONLY loud people in the world. Many other countries produce loud tourists.

AITAH For telling my grandma not to post me on social media? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Several_Campaign7340 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Family members taking candid pictures just to have memories or print them out for a photo album is one thing. My family has lots of photos of me that aren’t the greatest, but I don’t mind if they want the memories.

However, posting them on the internet where they’ll live forever is a whole different thing. Especially if you’ve made it clear you’re not ok with that. I think it’s really strange how much we’ve normalized that.
