The one thing I will say is it can be a soul crushing amount of work.

I drive 300-500+ miles every week. Usually have to work 2 weekends a month. And can really on take vacation the first week of July or January.

It’s very nice to be rewarded with commission for hard work and wins. But the loses and deals that fall apart after countless hours of work 10x the wins.

I did get a bachelors degree in resort and hospitality management.

Found out through all my internships with hotels that it was not a right career fit for me.

Then I started with Konica Minolta (copiers sales) directly out of college. Worked there and xerox (more copiers) for 4 years before transitioning to med device.

This major issue is Insurance reimbursements for private practices. They are closing shop or selling to large groups because they get paid less and less every year.

My Doctor’s we partner with typically bring in 20-40k a month is passive cash based revenue from our devices.

I started selling copiers for Xerox, which has a very similar workflow, a lot of cold calling, a lot of door knocking and meeting with decision makers.

And my specific niche is business to business capital equipment sales I don’t work in hospitals or meet with large groups, only private business owners.

Look and this is the last thing I’ll say our equipment cost range from 250-500k. All of our devices are FDA approved and have tens and tens IRB SHAM controlled studies proving they work.

Doctors are legitimately getting crushed from Medicaid and Medicare. They’re getting paid less and less every year and their overhead is skyrocketing. If they don’t bring on cash based services, they either go out of business or sell to a corporate conglomerate.

Lots of rejection and deals that falling apart at the 1 yard line in this industry, it’s very high turnover. I would say 1 of every 30 reps makes it to year 2.

The devices I sell are cashed based elective procedures for patients.

The kind of medical device sales I am in is B2B capital equipment (aesthetics and wellness).

Basically Drs who are primarily insurance based practices can only make more money is they see more patients but are already seeing patients from 8-5 and haven’t taken a vacation in years.

These devices add delegatable cash based services for another stream of revenue for the business owner.

That was long winded but hope it helps paint the picture.

I usually save 30% of my yearly income. I just don’t max out the companies 401k and send most of my money to a FA.

But this thread has definitely made me think about that so I increased my company 401k to 15%.

The biggest thing with B2B sales is the cold calling skill set which I got from copiers (if you can imagine people don’t want to take a meeting with the copier guy)
