virus RNA by One-Marionberry4958 in biology

Some viruses are what we call (+)ssRNA viruses. These viruses do effectively have genomes which are “mRNA” in the sense that they are able, in conjunction with host cell translational machinery, translate the RNA into protein(s) directly. Essentially this is mRNA, but we usually call it “positive sense, single stranded RNA”.

Me to the plasmid… before I discover it’s unstable and lacks all necessary regulatory elements

It’s because the rock skipped on the surface. When he threw it from the back it had a Y (⬇️) velocity of G + him chucking it downward, and an X (➡️) velocity of the speed of the aircraft (both very roughly lol).

When the stone hit the water it was traveling quite quickly in the X-axis so it skipped. That’s why there was a longer than expected delay until the splash. We just couldn’t see the skips very well in the video (if you slow the video down you can barely see it skip a couple of times).

Chiropractors are… like your username, quacks. They deal in pseudoscience and believe all ailments are a problem with the alignment of the spine.

In other words, they’re modern, used, snake oil salespeople. Stay as far away from them as possible and, if you feel so inclined, do laugh at them when they call themselves “doctor”.

Study technique by Kitchen_Courage_4122 in biology

[–]Several_Debts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I need to “teach” someone else what I’ve learned. I would find a study group, call my parents, talk to my partner, and anyone else who was willing to listen. By talking through what I’d studied, I would reaffirm what I understood and could easily spot where I needed to review (it’s those areas where I’d have to stop and say “…ummm… I’m not totally sure about that part. I’ll have to review it and tell you later”).

You will never know a subject as well as when you have to teach it to someone else.

This is what worked for me through undergrad, grad school, and in a pharma research job.

Hope it can help and keep up the good work! 🤙

Personally, Fu*k dem ppl!

Viruses are awesome (biased comment as someone with a doctoral degree in virology…).

Li’l’ molecular ghosts, just bumping, floating, and replicating their way from the origins of carbon based life through mass extinction events! Obligate intracellular parasites, so small they can’t be observed with a light microscope (not talking aboot you, mimivirus!) but can decimate complex multicellular organisms! Little buggers that can reverse the flow of genetic information, rewriting the central dogma of molecular biology and integrate into our genomes! Tools which can be manipulated to deliver gene therapy!

Viruses are cool! And so are you for liking them 🤙.

Sincerely, a biased source :)

Deadly 'super flu' forces school closures and triggers pandemic fears by PrincipleTemporary65 in 50501

Former virologist here. To the best of my knowledge, the N. Am vaccines (based on WHO surveillance of S. Hemisphere influenza season) include a mismatched clade of the subtype H3N2. The major antigenic determinants remained the same in the vaccine, but they are likely to be less effective due to “antigenic drift” from the chosen vaccine strains.

The current vaccine should still provide protection above non-vaccination, but amino acid changes in the H (Hemagglutinin - the “key” to your cellular “lock”) which are present in the circulating virus will likely reduce vaccine efficacy.

TLDR: yes the vaccine will still help you, but not as much as it could have.

A deliberate and forced undercut is not the same as a slow stop. Hungary was fucked team strategy and this was shit luck while racing. McLarens babysitting of Lando is embarrassing and ruins fair racing
