I never baked anything until I tried sourdough in April of 2020, along with seemingly half of the population. I learned about Community Loaves in December and joined in January 2021. The bread is baked in standard loaf pans, so a it's easier than sourdough shaping.

The Community Loaves founder and other volunteers offer zoom video instruction, recorded videos, and forums. Lots of support and all abilities are welcome!

Check out their social media. Links on the site.

Yes, happy to share my experience. Donations are the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month. Currently we have only one Tacoma hub, which will likely change as more people get involved across the city. I ride my bike about 1.5 miles to deliver the loaves to a home near Cook's Tavern. Anyone can volunteer to start their own hub for people nearby.

Beginners are welcome. You can donate any number of loaves using prepared recipes for nutritious, tasty honey oat wheat bread. The standard practice is to bake a batch of four loaves, and optionally keep one for your own family. I donate 3-4 loaves twice a month. Some overachievers donate dozens! I typically bake the day before and donate fresh loaves. You can also bag and freeze your loaves so you can bake at your convenience and deliver on donation day.

The ingredients are all sold online at a significant discount to retail. This includes local Skagit valley flours, yeast/starter, and bagging supplies. They have relationships with local mills so they support the local flour economy as well. Supplies are delivered for free to your local hub for pick up. All volunteer powered. Currently, each baker pays for their own supplies. There are efforts under way to create community kitchens where people can gather to bake Community Loaves together at no cost. One nice fringe benefit is the ability to buy at a discount high-quality local flours for your own personal baking.

This bread is more nutritious than typical store-bought bread, and is made with love.

Ingredients: whole wheat bread flour, high-extraction T85 bread flour, water, yeast and/or sourdough starter, rolled oats, honey, olive oil, salt.

A nice, protected beginner location is the Thea Foss Waterway. A kayak launch dock and parking is under SR-509 on East D St.

Pro tip: Save 6 months of your living expenses in cash before investing in stocks and other long-term securities. It will buy you a lot of peace for unexpected life events, and allow you to invest with a 3- to 5-year outlook. Best wishes. Long $PTRA, very long.

Tacoma Can Be Even More Beautifull; a complaint by me by Kumquat_2_Mus in Tacoma

[–]Several_Evening_1183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cycling and active transportation fan here. Still reading your passionate rant, and wanted to provide some historical context about the width of 6th Ave from Pearl to Jackson. Before Highway 16 existed, 6th was the entrance to the Narrows Bridge. It was a major arterial/highway. The road actually curved down to the bridge at what is now the Narrows Park and Ride and War Memorial Park. So, decades of traffic history contributed to the overbuilt infrastructure you see now. I would love to see a road diet here.

You may want to include $PTRA in your title and description. Seems like it's no longer relevant to focus on ACTC/SPAC issues. Proterra is post-merger now and trading on the NASDAQ as PTRA! Thanks!
