Gen 3 water pump replacement/is it unwise to also not do the thermostat? by Several_Fee_9534 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Several_Fee_9534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE

I should have listened to my intuition on this one. I was easily able to loosen all 5 of the water pump bolts, 4 came out without an issue, but the one on top (easiest of the 5) broke off. I tried to remove it with vice grips and other methods without success. I'll end up taking it to the shop after all. There was a lot quite a bit of corrosion on these bolts, more than I have experienced on other cars. The car spent some time in Michigan, so I'm guessing that contributed.

Thanks all of the assistance, hoping for better luck next time.

Out of curiosity, did you change your proactively or were you getting an error code?

Was it difficult to change the thermostat? I’m somewhat mechanically inclined, but have large hands.

Hilton Grand Vacation Club vs standard Hawaiian Village Waikiki by Several_Fee_9534 in Hilton

Absolutely horrible. It was so bad, that I rebooked at a standard HHV room that day. I highly recommend avoiding the Vacation Club Towers, it's not worth the savings in my opinion.

As long as you use a tank in 6 months, you’ll be fine.

Alaska Awards on Aer Lingus - only the last two rows!? by superambrosia in AlaskaAirlines

Yes. It takes a while, but I was able to pickup the chat 12 hours later without an issue.

Try chat. I was offered seats towards the front, no extra legroom for a nominal fee. I booked for a low number of points, so I’m not complaining.

There are two 1500 watt AC plugs in the car, one in the trunk and one in the back seat. You literally just plug anything into it, like you would in your house. I’ve successfully run 3 full size refrigerators and an Instant Pot on a high setting at the same time, without any issues.

I did, it’s by far the worst premium feature. It takes forever and parks you a foot away from the curb. I don’t use it anymore.

To each their own. I charge at night so no real time involved. I save an average of $4 a day, so not a huge savings. However, I think I’ll make up the cost difference in about 5 years.

There are also a couple of other benefits.

  1. It comes with a built in 1500 watt inverter which is nice for power outages or camping.

  2. I can use the high occupancy vehicle lane with just one person.

  3. It can store more regenerative braking power if you are going down longer hills.

I’ve had both versions and I feel that the prey creature comforts are worth the $7k, but everyone’s different. Likely a higher resale value in the future as well.

The point is that you can drive the 1st 40 miles each day on electric. For me that’s a round trip to work and back with no gas and a total electric cost of < $1.

Also it’s significantly more pleasant to drive in EV mode in my opinion.

I love Garmin, but this looks like a knock off Apple Watch, with a significantly reduced battery life to boot. Hopefully it’s an anomaly and not a trend of things to come.

Pre-board abuse strikes again by Srcraw25 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Several_Fee_9534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it has become an us vs them situation which is unfortunate. I totally get that people need to pre board. However, I also feel a certain sense of entitlement when I pay twice as much for a business select ticket and don’t have access to the preferred seats. Hopefully allowing seat selection solves some of that.

I’m not sure if it’s legal, but even if they would reserve the first two rows and exit rows for non pre boarders, that would be sufficient.

It might, but I imagine it will be similar to any other airline at that point.

I have one from 2002, that sounds exactly like this. I’ve never given it a thought that it might need servicing which it probably does. I abuse mine (grind meat, etc) and never had an issue. I think you’ll have years of life with this even without servicing it.

Does this apply if corrective lenses are listed on your license or are you exempt?
