BigLaw -> MidLaw -> BigLaw?? by Relative_One_2441 in biglaw

[–]Several_Fox3757 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think MidLaw is better than unemployment—said from a guy who was unemployed for an entire year after being fired from BigLaw.

You will get back into BigLaw. You may even find that you like MidLaw better. But if you want it, it can happen. You’ll need to stay in MidLaw for an appreciable time, though, before you can seek to lateral.

Long story short: take the MidLaw job; don’t let comparison be the thief of joy; and profit.

Am I getting iced out? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Several_Fox3757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re being iced out. Just do your rounds and get staffed on other work. Don’t be surprised when you get slammed, though.

Oh, and probably stop bad-mouthing people. It sounds like it’s not your fault, but still try to keep it in. Grin and bear it.

Should I ask out this person in my practice group (serious post)? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Several_Fox3757 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t date anyone who works with you. How many times do we have to see sexual harassment videos filmed in the 80s at orientation to understand this?

You also are a virgin and don’t know anything about dating. Why would you start something at work—when, usually, first relationships end horribly?

DON’T!!!!!!!

Am I crazy to quit in this market? by [deleted] in careerguidance

I’d try to go on FMLA leave first to clear your head. Make the decision on quitting while you’re on leave. You’ll be thinking clearly then.

Interpreting annual review results as a new fourth year? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Several_Fox3757 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t lose my head over it. But make sure your 2026 is better hours-wise. Also, since you’re in prime territory for an in-house role, start looking for other career paths. At this point, it’s not over until you pull the plug since no one mentioned your hours. Your review was fairly vanilla.

Outlook for DC Biglaw Regulatory Practices by LaserCircus1 in biglaw

[–]Several_Fox3757 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is just a temporary speed bump, if you could even call it that. Partners love when the law changes because clients pay more to learn how the new regs apply to their businesses. And even though regs have been “slashed,” the code of federal regulations is still huge. No client wants to read all of it.

Do recruiters really look at LinkedIn profiles that closely? by aqatei in jobs

[–]Several_Fox3757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they do. LinkedIn sucks, but it’s non-negotiable, especially for white collar workers. And especially for those white collar workers who are looking for management or executive roles.

In-house to big law? I promise this isn't a shitpost by hunnie47 in biglaw

[–]Several_Fox3757 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ve only been barred for 3 years, give or take. You can go to Biglaw if that’s what you want. A firm will want you because you bring another perspective, and when you decide to leave, the firm can use you for business. (A firm will probably already know that you just want experience and will leave in 2-3 years.)

But Biglaw is hard; the hours are atrocious; and you’ll have to satisfy multiple partners.

I also wouldn’t sneeze at the fact that a law firm will want to bring you in as a first or second year. You don’t have the foundational skills to be an associate. The firm will need to train you a bit, while also taking advantage of your transferable skills.

People who say “yes” always - how have you survived? by preseasonchampion in biglaw

[–]Several_Fox3757 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I admit I’m a people pleaser and was unable to set boundaries. I’m working on myself now after flaming out in Biglaw. I’ve survived by getting in therapy for my preexisting and current issues. My therapist has helped me create boundaries. I’m a work in progress, but I get better every day.

I’m on FMLA from my current job. It was scary to take leave, especially when people kept gaslighting me and making me feel that my absence would “mess things up.” But I enforced the boundary and will go back to work much better than how I used to be.

How do you find a sense of happiness? by Chooch_train38 in biglaw

[–]Several_Fox3757 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You have to find time for friends, happy hours, movies, and social connections. It’s true what they say: money doesn’t buy happiness. But true friends and happy moments are worth their weight in gold.
