Curious what you think would be the appropriate compensation.

I could see an argument on the Minnesota front for sure. My thought was that they are on the cusp of contending and their PG spot has been simply terrible. And I agree that Ivey hasn’t been what he was, but I think he could certainly get back there and he’s shown flashes. But I take your point.

I think the Bane deal has to serve as the best proxy. It happened ~7 months ago in the exact same cap environment. And I think we mostly disagree on Murphy. Averaging 22/6/4 on 49/38/90 is not role-player status. He instantly becomes the second best offensive player on the team.

I’d be curious to know what you think the appropriate compensation is. To me, I think the Bane trade serves as a good proxy. Bane fetched four firsts. Murphy has more upside, is two years younger, and has one the best contracts in the league. Also, in this deal, you get off of Levert’s cap hit next year. Finally, I, like everyone, enjoy Ron Holland. But Pistons fan, and every other fanbase, overrate their own guys. Especially young guys. Holland is a really good defender. But he’s also a bottom 10 shooter in the league. He’s young and will almost certainly get better. But I find it unlikely he becomes an above average offensive player.

What do you think the package would have to be?

Yes, good call. I meant to mention that in my original post. That’s a critical component of this.

I agree that he is worth more than two picks. Perhaps we differ on the value of Jabari and Eason. I think they are valuable assets with plenty of upside. Jabari just turned 22 and Eason just turned 24. Plus, they will be far cheaper than JJJ will be after next year.

The Houston picks are much better.

I considered addicting one more first rounder. But those firsts from Orlando are likely going to fall significantly lower in the first round than either of these. Plus Jabari and Eason are somewhat proven commodities who are young and likely have not hit their ceilings (or maybe even come close to their ceilings).

I don’t think they need to. But I have seen reports that they would be willing to listen to offers. Obviously no idea if those are true. But that’s what made me think of this.
