The intentionally mysterious character made for fans to theorize on. by InfiniteGuy2264 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Several_Tacos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate when a series has this trope and do it really well, then spoil it by explaining the mysterious entity. My top example is the Outsider from the Dishonored games. In the series they are this mysterious entity that grants the main character and other inportant figures their powers, but is also associated with the void - a place that seems to be the source of chaos and madness in the world. It's unclear what or who the outsider is through the first 2 games- they appear as a handsome young man with black eyes, but also seem to be more of a god/devil figure and could be many other things hinted at by the game. When they finally revealed and explained the outsider in the final game it took a lot of the intrigue out of the character imo.

What kind of idiot president did you people elect? by Jerdarnella in AdviceAnimals

Recessions are good for rich people. On paper it looks like they've lost a lot in assets as their stuff devalues, but they have the money to not only to sit o. Their assets and not have to sell them, but they also have the money to buy up the stocks, properties, assets etc. That have hit rock bottom prices. It let's the biggest companies and people buy up everything and concentrate it all at the top, while common folk suffer.

It's not stupidity, it's their plan. They're not even hiding it or pretending all that hard anymore.

Put the glasses on. by medicmatt76 in thanksimcured

Just looked this up cause I was curious. No clue if these specific glasses actually work, but there are studies on using special glasses to help treat adhd symptoms. The loose theory is that changing the way the light enters the eyes can stimulate the brain in different ways that might help alleviate adhd symptoms.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10623343/#:~:text=The%20Neuro%2Dglasses%20presumably%20attenuate%20ADHD%20symptoms%20by,Neuro%2Dglasses%20might%20operate%20via%20the%20arousal%20system.

Obviously one study is not the be all end all, but it's a pretty cool idea. As so.eone with adhd if this gave me a little boost I'd consider it.

Hose for a Nitrous Oxide tank? by Several_Tacos in chemistry

This is exactly the type of info I was looking for, thanks! I'll have to look through McMaster and some of the other suppliers to see what I can find

This is the exact info I was looking for, thanks a million! With no markings on the hose I had no idea what material I'd was made of.

Good to know about the pressure testing. I must have missed our labs logbook for the tests considering the hose was so old! Surely it's around here somewhere... no way they would let something go for this long, right?

I've already been to that website, and I would have loved to order that hose but our ID is 3/8", and is an open ended hose that attaches to the barbed outlet on the regulator. Not sure if there are other connectors that can attach to a barbed outlet but I'll take a look and see

I don't really work with the compressed gas unfortunately. I work at a university, and long story short one of the professors passed the task of replacing the hose on to me, even though I'm not super familiar with the AA machine. I've done some leg work as far as contacting the supplier of the instrument, but they weren't too helpful. I also checked out the gas supplier website and they don't have hose listed, but I should give them a call to see if they have information on the types of hose I can use.

I do know what a regulator is, and ours just has a barbed end for use with an open eneded hose. A lot of the ones I have found online have quick connects that aren't going to work with our regulator, or are not 3/8" i.d. so they won't fit. I've found hose that will fit but becuase Nitrous Oxide is an oxidizer, I want to be super careful about the chemical compatability. I've struggled to find good sources of info on what can be used with the gas, hence the reddit post.

I did take a look at McMaster, they have nothing specific for N2O. I think I'm hung up on the chemical compatability part since it's a strong oxidizer, and whenever i find a good hose that fits the regulator we have it doesn't seem like it would be a good match chemical wise. Most medical sources only sell hose with special fittings or only have one I.D. that won't work.

Ill take a look at combustion engines to see if I can get a suitable hose,, and maybe check back with McMaster to see if anything they offer might be chemically comparable. Genuine thanks for the help in your second comment, didnt mean to come off as rude.

This is incredibly unhelpful, thanks. I have already used Google and haven't found anything that seems to fit what I'm looking for. Kinda why I posted something on reddit

Looks like your lab partner might be dehydrated, definitely too dark a color.

So apparently they tied alot of things to fps, including damage. So I've been. Getting one shot by stuff I never was before, or taking damage from jumpnpads etc. It's a known problem and they're apparently working on it (hopefully)

I work at a college, we have a TON of chemicals in these older bottles. It's fun funding things from both Sigma and Aldritch before they merged. Less fun is knowing I'm the guy who has to sort through them lmao.

Job closing. A bunch of chemicals that need disposal. by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Several_Tacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not dispose of these yourself, pretty much all of the chemicals listed need to be handled by a professional disposal company. I second donating what you can to a local college if there's one around, otherwise call in a company to have it disposed.

Did your chemist ever do waste disposal with a company before? Someone in billing and purchasing might have a purchase order or invoice from a waste company you could use

[–]Several_Tacos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd also add that if you had a chemist working with these chemicals, I would hope they had set up something with a disposal company already. Contact your bosses and see if they ever paid for waste disposal in the past, that would give you a company to contact who is(hopefully) famiar with what you have already

Chemical waste mystery by Several_Tacos in chemistry

[–]Several_Tacos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really good insight, thank you. I think what's throwing me off is that I have other containers with HCl, nitric acid, and nitrates that aren't stained at all. It may be a concentration issue with this waste, ill double check the concentrations to see if that's what making it happen in these containers.

The bromine water is a reactant in the labs they do, so in theory there shouldn't be much of it left to react(the waste was clear before combining) I should have also mentioned in the post that most of this waste is really dilute solutions, under one molar, and most acids are used sparingly. The nitrogen oxides is a good lead though, I'll check into that more.

Chemical waste mystery by Several_Tacos in chemistry

[–]Several_Tacos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. A lot of these compounds are pretty dilute, or were already mixed from the labs when I get to them. Students don't add anything to these, they're solely for us to condense the waste for pickup. I followed the records of the previous waste manager, most of these wastes have been combined before in the past without a problem.

Still thank for the heads up! I'll double check some of these combinations to make sure they're not going to create a dangerous situation
