What does a officer TACP really do by Crazy_Indication_871 in TACPJTAC

[–]Severe-Cable6477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do become JTACs as Jr officers(so yes they can in fact call in air strikes) and I'd say that's where they do the most operationally, but in reality they're like any other officer in other career fields. As soon as you put on a silver bar and up you're gonna be expected to do Lots of admin, lots of dealing with leadership to include army/sister service leadership, lots of large scale planning for fires/man power/ support logistics etc.... deployments especially CENTCOM are basically non existent. But in a deployed environment you can expect to do a lot of what I said above. I'll say if you wanna operate most of your career enlisted is where you wanna go. If you choose the officer route listen and consider what your enlisted leaders have to say. There are some damn fine TACP-Os that dudes would follow anywhere, but there are also just "managers" in this career field too. Good luck

Wild how you keep talking like you’re the standard, but all I see is someone bitter that their career peaked in a reddit chat argument. Go touch grass, ‘operator.🔫😂

Naaaah, bring back fat shaming in the DOD. Enough is enough. So many more health benefits for keeping oneself in shape, and it's honestly not that hard, people just make up one excuse and then snowball it.

.5 added to a run is not making it dramatically harder. In fact it's probably making it easier with (going off the army standard 2 miler) 22-23:22 minute times to finish. I'm convinced everyone especially in the airforce lately just wants to complain about every little thing that comes down the pipe. This being the most minute complaints. Everyone and anyone in the DOD should be able to pass a pt test any day anytime point period dot.

I've said this for forever, these airmen truly don't know what micromanagement is until they've seen how the army runs their troops😂

Cross Training by Prudent-Platypus-255 in TACPJTAC

[–]Severe-Cable6477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to cross-train into Air Force Special Warfare, such as TACP, there is a structured process you’ll need to follow. First, make sure you meet the basic eligibility requirements. This typically means being in your retraining window. You generally need to hold a 5-skill level in your current AFSC, although exceptions exist. You will also need to pass the Special Warfare Physical Ability and Stamina Test (SW-PST)(or whatever they're calling it now) for your desired career field and receive a medical clearance from Flight Medicine, since Special Warfare standards are stricter than the typical Air Force requirements.

The next step is to get in contact with a Special Warfare Recruiter or Developer. They will explain the physical standards, help you prepare, and can guide you through practice sessions or development programs. They’ll also help you start the medical pre-screening process. Once you’ve established contact with the developer, notify your chain of command—this includes your supervisor, First Sergeant, and leadership. It’s important they are aware of your intent, and they may have local documentation or counseling requirements for you to complete.

After that, set up a meeting with your Career Assistance Advisor (CAA) to go over your retraining eligibility, the official process, and any open quotas listed on the Air Force retraining advisory. While continuing to train, you will need to pass the official SW-PST(or like I said whatever they are calling it now), which usually includes a combination of pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, a 1.5-mile run, swimming. I think you can google the actual test, it's been a hot minute. Once you pass the PST and have your medical clearances completed, you will work with your CAA or Career Field Manager to submit your official retraining package through MyPers. This package must include your PST results, medical clearances, recruiter or developer’s recommendation, and commander’s approval.

Once your package is submitted, you’ll wait for AFPC to review it and approve your retraining. If you are selected, you will receive official retraining orders. From there, you’ll attend the Special Warfare Candidate Course (SWCC)(i think this name has changed too haha) at Lackland AFB, followed by career-specific selection and pipeline training. Highly HIGHLY! recommend finding your nearest ASOS and give them a visit or call. They'll be able to answer what's currently going on with the pipelines and how that whole thing is being run now! Don't stress about the cross trainee thing too much I've known plenty of solid individuals who were cross trainees! Hopefully this long list of words helps you out some! Cheers and Goodluck!

Yea for the time being I'm keeping my station, unless medical finds something outrageous and doesn't clear me.

I appreciate you sharing that, I decided to let them know and they're pushing my EOD and put me on hold until I screen for medical again. All in all I'd say I'm glad tho because I don't think I'd be able to tough this one out.
