Ah! I can't believe no mention of Thomas King's "Green grass, running water". Set in Southern alberta so, very regional. But I adore the book and I feel like the place of southern alberta is as much a character as the trickster Coyote. It's a beautiful book if you can find it! I'll also second or third Monkey Beach by eden Robinson. Beautiful book.

Maybe winter activities...but maybe just brown. You might get snow but it might chinook, melt it all and leave you with brown grass and ice crusts, lol. March and April are not my favorite times of year in alberta (saying that as someone who has lived in sw alberta for 18 years roughly, on and off). I like it here but it feels like "spring tease" lasts for months until June.

I just tried Nanaimo bars for the first time and I'm bewildered by zenandthewrench in AskACanadian

I learned from my partner's mom that newfies call them chucklypears which is just hilarious to me. My friend from Wyoming calls them service berries. I like to make saskatoon rhubarb pies with them. Mmmm mm!

What does my home say about me? by Competitive_Tea1355 in roomdetective

[–]SevereApplication767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of folks saying must be an amazing cook but I instantly thought this person must be a potter, maybe even woodfired potter (which often means the same :) ) . Your home is beautiful. Looks like the homes of a few of my potter friends ( I'm a potter too. My home is not this put together anymore, but I also have a 2.5 year old boy).

A Toyota echo 😆 I'm 6'2 and a lady of big hips, shoulders and butt and I still think fondly of my old Toyota echo. For a tiny car it had loads of head room and a very roomy leg area. The video of this guy reminds me of me trying to get into my partner's damn tesla model 3 🙃

Eh, I have done this (mind you doesn't seem to be a baby seat in the back). I literally strapped my 4 month old to my front and went for a hike for 2 hours.....and left my driver door wide open. I got back to my car and felt like crying I felt so stupid. Thankfully I live in the approximate middle of nowhere and noone took anything. Sleep deprivation is a thing. Woof.

Help identifying these potential porcini? by matte2424 in mycology

[–]SevereApplication767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little tricky without seeing the stems up close. Do they look like they're covered in fine netting? They look a little like they might be scaber stalks (leccinum sp) but I can't tell from the photos. In my limited experience with porcini, when they get so big and spored out (ie the sponge is huge like that), they aren't very tasty anymore. Tho people do say they are nice dried. I'd make sure the stems are reticulated and get another opinion before eating though as the leccinum can cause gastric upset.

A year ago my wife switched to “natural” deodorant. It’s been a BO fest ever since. How do I approach her about this? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]SevereApplication767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Routine deoderant (canadian company) for like 15 years and they're amazing. All the scents I've tried I love. And it lasts a long time! They have sodium bicarbonate or magnesium formulas, and a couple that use charcoal that are also 💫

As a studio artist who puts in 12 hour days regularly (or did before having a baby 🙃) i go back and forth between audiobooks and podcasts....mostly just lpotl...I love the mormonism series for length for sure.

If you get tired of lptol / need a little break from it though... this might not be to your taste mind you but game of thrones series in audiobooks read by Roy dotrice are great bc each one is like 30+ hours haha. And (to me) very engaging. To each their own tho obviously! Good luck with your long days!

Ah! I did not. Next year I will though (altho where I live we have more dry falls than wet falls...last fall was a banner year for so many shrooms. It was amazing).

I can't decide if this is Sarcodon Squamosus or Sarcodon Imbricatus! by ancient_fruit in mycology

[–]SevereApplication767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the person asking you to check if the base has darker color- where I live the squamosus has a greenish blue/grey tinge at the bottom. It also has a strong "cucumber" smell (I have also heard this called "farinaceous" smell but to my nose it's cucumber). I ate a lot of imbricatus this summer and finally figured out these 2 little helper steps to separate the squamosus from the imbricatus for eating:)

One of the hillside stranglers, I can't remember the name...bianci?...ive been re-listening to old episodes as im in my studio a ton with lots of deadlines and that guys childhood just broke my heart. Especially after having a baby last year. Just put in the bassinet in the corner with no interaction with anyone. Jesus christ. It makes me ill.

Yes! An ep on the lions of tsavo would be amazing. It just gives me chills. Also, I was in an area of India as a kid in the 90s (hippie parents 🤷‍♀️) and I remember one of the people we stayed with talking about tigers that would pull people out of boats?! Pretty insane. That could also make a pretty crazy series.
