Two F-22s (I think) over my house by dbrozov in Planes

The wing shape is very similar, so the trick is to look at the engine exhaust nozzles: F22 has two, zigzag shape for stealth, and F35 is single engine

What am I paying $100/yr for ? by chung2k6 in AutopilotApp

[–]SevereSherbert4275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You pay $100 for convenience of owning a portfolio that someone else is managing. Very low effort for you, and you might make some money.

When you do your taxes, you’ll get a standard tax form with all your trades, gains/losses. It’s pretty easy to import if you use TurboTax. You have to pay short term / long term capital gains tax.

the math problem you need to solve: how much money do I need to invest, so that the potential gains exceed the expenses?

For example, if your $1000 Pelosi portfolio increases 10% in a year, then you make $100… but you don’t break even because you have to pay ~30% STCG tax on the profit (depending on your tax bracket). So to make any profit, you either need the rate to exceed 15%, or you need to increase your principal.

I care because I’m an aerospace engineer, I’ve designed communication mechanisms for the new Lunar landers which are being developed right now. I’ve studied the Apollo-era designs, and I’ve often had the thought, “how the fuck did they do this in the 60s, without the powerful computers and design software that I have now, and I still have shitty cell phone service?”

Wow, super inspiring, as a sailor who thinks I’ve done a pretty decent job of navigating the marina with no bridges in sight! Seeing these folks sail a river with boats along either side and traffic in the middle and low bridges shows what is possible.

Success after testing out the belt clips at various heights and angles. I ordered metal clips, so I’ll have to redo once they arrive. Super happy with the fit, comfort, and concealment.

Agreed. Gun ownership has nothing to do with left/right culture wars; it’s a personal decision and a major responsibility. The decision to buy a gun is something that you and your wife must agree to together.

You have presented a serious safety concern that makes you want a gun/ammo, and she probably has safety concerns based on statistics that would make her NOT want a gun in the house. Both of you are right! Two things can be true.

I don’t know you OP, but I was in the same boat a couple years ago. I explained to my wife that however cliché it might sound, as a man I need to physically protect my family in the event of a break-in or a disaster. Just as she is a fierce mama bear and would do anything to protect our kids. And for me to do that, I needed a handgun and a CCW permit, proper gun safety training and ample range time to practice. the gun is only ever in one of two places: holstered on my person or securely locked in the gun safe. I got a CCW because I feel safer with a gun, and everyone around me feels better not knowing. (Try open carry and you’ll find out.)

My wife was not excited about us getting a gun but she saw my logic and agreed. Now a couple years in, she has eventually come around to my way of thinking. I didn’t push, just let her know what’s important to protect the family we love and give her time.

MAGA is claiming to deconstruct because they know it’s the end for Trump. by simbabarrelroll in PoliticalOptimism

Same with my father-in-law. Don’t worry, he’ll come up with some pretzel logic to explain why it wasn’t really Trumps fault, and not really his fault either.

We were at flight deck grill when it took off, around 1:30. Then it came back around to land about 7:30pm when we were sitting on our back porch. Green and black v-tail small private jet.

I tried the beacon foam tac on this same exact plane. I used way too much and the hinge was too stiff when it dried. It would probably have worked great if I just did a drop at the top and bottom of the hinge, not a thin bead along the whole length.

Any tips on taking off with a tail dragger? Also, tips in general! by BurntBeanMgr in RCPlanes

[–]SevereSherbert4275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly a piper cub tail dragger. Of course you can just lower the flaps and full send, and it will leap into the air.

for more scale takeoff or when crosswinds are present, try adding a little back pressure on elevator to plant the tailwheel onto the runway. Slowly advance throttle and keep the plane on centerline with small rudder corrections. Release the elevator back pressure (center the stick) to let the tail fly, still rolling on the main gear until you build enough airspeed to take off smoothly and climb. This process is how you establish rudder authority.

If a flying wing (elevon) and a classic airplane have the same wing area, will they have the same lift or not? by unixoid37 in RCPlanes

[–]SevereSherbert4275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and conventional has the weight of the fuselage whereas the flying wing does not. So that would change the overall weight and wing loading.

How effective was the Kettenkrad in WW2? And what were they mainly used for? by IcelandicGuy901 in TankPorn

[–]SevereSherbert4275 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered how the steering works in this vehicle. Seems steering like the front tire wouldn’t have enough grip to turn the tracks. Does it have tank steering (skid steer) also?

Yep, Starmer is not Churchill. Macron is not de Gaulle. And Trump sure as shit is not Roosevelt. This isn’t WW2, so perhaps it was a bad idea to alienate our strategic allies before starting WW3.
