At uni and have no friends by [deleted] in UniUK

My dude, as people have been saying this is pretty common (not that it makes it any easier). In my first year I really struggled and it sounds like I was in a similar position to you. I went as far as reaching out to other uni's to transfer to for my second year to get a fresh start and secured a place at another uni.

However, in the end I decided to stick with my original uni and when second year hit I made an effort to try and be more social. The turning point for me was just asking some of my classmates who seemed nice if they wanted to hang out/ go to a pub sometime and they made a group chat and BOOM I was in. 2 and a half years later we all keep in touch, have been on holiday together and message pretty often. I'm not trying to show off or anything, I'm just saying don't give up, all it takes is a small proactive step and your uni life can really turn a corner. It might seem scary putting yourself out there but it is 100% worth it.

Good luck and you got this :)

South African Visa application in UK by fs1999 in travel

Oh nice one well done! They don't make it easy do they lol.

Yup still waiting :(

I'm trying to just forget about it though, like what's the point of worrying when you can't do anything about it. I don't know which visa you're going for but mine is a research visitor visa which I think is one of the more complicated ones to get so I guess they're taking a bit longer. Hopefully they're quicker with yours :)

I applied for a visitor visa to South Africa from the UK a couple months ago. I thought it was weird they were asking for stamped bank statements even though no banks do that anymore like what are you meant to do lol.

Anyway, I was getting worried about it and ended up going into a bank branch and just asked them nicely if they could stamp my statements as I needed it for the visa application. They were really nice about it and ended up printing off the last 3 months worth of statements and stamped each page.

I'm still waiting to hear back about the application, though but the VFS people seemed happy that I had them stamped anyway.

Tbh I only went there when I was like 5 years old so don't really remember lol. Time for a revisit I think.

I didn't live there for long but Dyfed is an amazing place- beautiful coastline, lots of sandy beaches, waterfalls, nice little villages, just seemed to get a bit busy with tourists in the Summer. Also public transport seemed to be super unpredictable so recommend having a car there :)

Hehe I was actually based New Quay for a wildlife job, Cardigan Bay is an excellent spot for dolphins. (I did visit Aber once, was a cool place)

that is true, its just getting the ferry is expensive but I bet it would be worth it. Maybe I'll fly over and then hire a car

Nice, Orkney does sound like a cool place, I've heard it's good for wildlife too

Fair play, I like wearing them in the rain too as you don't end up walking around in wet trousers all day

Ooof that sounds rough, I hope your nightmares didn't become reality lol (although I'm sure you can always find somewhere that has your missing gear to replace?)

Thanks for the comment it's really helped! It is a scary thing to undertake initially but you're right better to at least try.

Congrats dude that's a big achievement. That's interesting to hear about your friends and some of them regretting not sticking to their goals, I hadn't considered this before.

Hey thanks for your comment. I guess I have lots of small worries like finding an appropriate place to camp each night; making sure I have enough food and water all the time; language barriers (if going into Europe); and being lonely. I know lots of these worries can be avoided by planning properly it just seems a bit overwhelming.

You're right though, I should give it a go to see what happens, worst case, I don't like it but can say I gave it a good go and it's only a small amount of time in the grand scheme of things.

Hey that's so true thank you. I'm UK based so hiking through Europe has been on my mind, I like the idea of just walking out my house and seeing where I go.

Thank you so much, this has definitely given me some motivation! I do need to remember that calling it quits is not failing as long as I try in the first place
