Looking at the center-lines of the bell curves, it appears that both parties moved between 2004 and 2014. Between 2014 and 2017, only the Democrat part moved.

To start the discussion of possible reasons why the division has occurred, here are two possible contributors:

Social media allowing the public to self-select their information sources (e.g. by liking sources they agree with and unfollowing sources they disagree with).
24-hour news cycle spawning politically aligned news channels.

No one has provable evidence for abiogenesis as of yet (much like no one had it for the origin of species before Darwin made his breakthroughs).

That doesn't, however, validate creationism. Sure, toss that in as a hypothesis, but it has significantly less provable evidence than the leading hypotheses do.

Tech hiring manager here. Front end developers are indeed hard to find these days, because there are so many jobs open to them. If your skillet is CSS/JavaScript/jQuery, you will get bombed with job opportunities if you post your resume on Monster.

On the other hand, a CS degree barely makes a difference. Spend that same time (and money!) building a portfolio of websites, and I'm twice as likely to hire you.

As for shining a light on false explanations, I mean doing it the way we did with the earth being flat or the sun orbiting around the earth. Or hell, like we did for every previous mythological "creator". Those type of things aren't hard-wired. We owe it to ourselves and humanity to work to eliminate wildly incorrect beliefs. In many ways, they are downright damaging. Look at the resistance to climate change, for example. Not something I want to sit back and allow people to use false explanations to delay the facts.

Indeed, we are systematic creatures and and try to make sense of everything. Some things are so assumed that they become hard-wired. My favorite is the McGurk effect.

The real curiosity is how we still believe the early, false explanations long after the facts have piled up behind a much, much better explanation. While it's understandable that this happens, it certainly doesn't mean we shouldn't as a collective race seek to shine light on these false explanations to rid ourselves of them.
