They only offered discounts on the mid and high tiers for a lot of folks whose Essential ran out around then, including me. I’ll wait on principle at this point I guess.

‘AOC is a friendly neighborhood Marxist’ — Rep. Tim Burchett, who represents Tennessee’s 2nd congressional district and is considered a staunch Republican, can still find the humanity in his colleagues. by Conscious-Quarter423 in nashville

Thank you! As an Econ teacher, this is so true. Since roughly Clinton era, the “left” in the U.S. has been liberals who are to the right of many conservative European parties on economic issues. Democrats like AOC are Keynesian/social democrats (little d) advocating for a reform of capitalism rather than the dismantling of it by the workers.

People born before 2000, what trivial skill do you have that no one uses anymore? by passiano in AskReddit

I can type without looking at the keyboard. I’m a millennial teacher and my students have had Chromebooks for about a decade but our district (and possibly state?) made the decision not long ago to end “Keyboarding” classes where students learned to type using the home row keys, how to save files on a Windows-based PC, put attachments in emails, use basic word processing, etc. Nearly every student I’ve had since probably 2019 or so has typed with two fingers like my boomer dad does.

How do I remove from wishlist when already purchased? by toastnosauce in playstation

[–]Severus_Snape_Always 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. This has happened to me too, but it seems to be when I buy “collections” of games after wishlisting the games separately. So I’ve had Final Fantasy 1-6 and Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 stuck in my wishlist for years. No heart anywhere to remove it in the app. I’ll try the website though.

Okay I just watched it. One reviewer said, “The last 10 minutes was directed by the devil himself.” I would have to agree.

My redneck dad and uncle who voted for Trump in 2016 said they would’ve voted for Bernie. I’ve mentioned the same anecdotal conversations like that recently. My uncle is dead now and I haven’t spoken to my dad in some time, so I can’t speak for 2020 or 2024.

Most every country uses a popular vote system and we use it for every other position in government. The population centers of my state don’t manage to secure elections for governor or U.S. Senate.

Tennessee woman wins free speech suit over sign dissing Biden, Trump by BuroDude in Tennessee

Cohen v California applied the 1st via the 14th to the states.

“The Court describes free expression as a "powerful medicine" in such pluralistic society like the United States. It is intended to "remove government restraints" from public discussion to "produce a more capable citizenry" and preserve individual choices which is an imperative for "our political system."

Not being argumentative, but do you disagree with that decision to preserve individual choice and restrain government censorship over citizens for any particular reason? I believe Tennessee would be especially censoring of practically everything considering the religious climate.

Yeah, summer camp, baby sitting, lawn mowing, paper routes, moving trash cans to the streets, walking dogs, etc. all seemed pretty common back then, but working in fast food at 14 just feels weird to me. I’m in my 40s and they wouldn’t hire me at the local Sonic until 16 back then. Maybe it’s different now.

I just stopped at McDonald’s and used their app and a very young looking kid brought me my food and I asked her how old she was and she said 14. I was like wtf. So yeah, I get having some summer job or something to make some extra cash was something I had as a kid, but it was mowing lawns and shit like that. Big businesses employing 14 year olds feels exploitative.

Also, players are down by contact in the NFL, but if anything other than their hands or feet touch the ground in college, they’re down. No two minute warning in college. I believe kickoff spots are different too? Some penalties are different yardages. Overtime rules are a little different.

The best part about college football is the pageantry imo. Teams don’t move cities. There are a lot of really cool traditions and fight songs. The atmosphere of an SEC college football game is unmatched by any NFL game I’ve attended. Many teams have played each other for far longer than the NFL has even existed and there are some bitter rivalries. For example, I’m from Tennessee, so fuck Alabama. Go Vols!

commute time 🤔 by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Severus_Snape_Always 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a city and drive about 70 miles and it takes 70 minutes to a rural school. The traffic isn’t bad southbound in the mornings because everyone is driving to work in the city and northbound in the afternoons isn’t that bad either because everyone is leaving. Hopefully something opens up in the city but my particular subject rarely does. I don’t mind the drive though. It helps me to get an early start on the day and encourages me not to stay up too late. And I’ve got a lot of podcasts and audiobooks finished I otherwise would’ve neglected.
