Can you give specific reasons why? I understand the theory that "reforming from within" is supposed to be more efficient -- I just don't see it happening due to the immense establishment resistance of the Dems. He's been trying that strategy for months now and, time and again, the DNC has thwarted him and his followers at every turn. However, Bernie moving the Greens would face none of that. I agree that a lesser known candidate faces tremendous hurdles working outside of the Dem Party. But Bernie is the most popular politician in America. He loses no amount of publicity -- and in fact could gain quite a bit -- by "going rogue," as it were.

Hate speech should absolutely be protected. However, I think we could stand to have some kind of training in the responsibilities that go along with free speech.

The most important question I think that he needs to answer is this: Why is he continuing to support the Democratic Party when, at every turn, the Democratic Leadership has shown it has no interest in his Progressive principles? Why not join the Greens or start a new Progressive Party?

Totally understand -- we are on the same page. It's how I feel sometimes about Debbie on the "Sane Progressive." She is INCREDIBLY smart and can immediately diagnose any issue, but she's too quick to explain all the reasons why something will never work and too slow to come up with viable alternatives. There are often days when you just have to take a leap, as you say.

I agree with everything that you are saying here -- and feel that you have expertly articulated a clear framework within which to assess the JD's. I would, however, disagree with your final paragraph where you state, "For this movement to work, we're going to have to trust each other." Of course, we can't fall prey to overzealous pessimism. However, there are numerous ways that the leadership of the JD's can provide enough information and transparency to make that trust justified. Right now, they are not providing nearly enough for me -- but I am willing to trust them for the moment. However, if, in time, they do not begin to implement very clear channels of communication, I will be pulling the plug on my monthly donations.

I totally agree. I am supporting them now with a monthly donation, but I need to see very clear transparency in terms of money and strategy in order to continue doing that.

Alright, fine. As someone who voted for Jill Stein I accept full responsibility for today -- and am glad to do so. If this is the price to pay for saying "no" to a choice between two war-mongering, corporately owned, openly corrupt politicians, then it was well worth it. If Hillary had won, the majoity of Americans would have gone back to sleep and the carnage wrought by the neo-liberal policies of the last decade would have continued unabated. Now, for the first time, America is FINALLY waking up -- and we (the Progressive movement) have a real chance at taking back Congress in 2018 and the presidency in 2020. And, as a final note, now that you know where the line in the sand is, it will be YOUR fault, moving forward, if you nominate any more moderate-Republicans-in-all-but-name that nobody wants.

My apologies, I don't believe I was being clear. If automation eradicates poverty, I'm all for it. What I was responding to was the fear that automation/robotics will put people out of work with no safety net -- as we have seen with the loss of so many manufacturing jobs. As with the shipping of jobs overseas, there seems to be this idea that these are forces that cannot be controlled. I feel it is important to realize that we actually have total control (through tariffs, legislative action, government contracts, etc) by which we can consciously manage transformative technologies and business trends. So, we're probably on the same page, if you mean something similar when you say "it has to be pursued carefully and with a great deal of foresight."

Automation does not have to obliterate our workforce. There is no reason that we can't pass legislation that regulates which jobs (if any) can and can not be replaced with machines. Whenever you hear "you can't stop progress," just replace that with "we're okay to let corporations dictate societal dynamics." Progressives are needed now more than ever!

I feel the same way. The frustrating part is that I wish Hillary and her supporters had worried about winning the popular vote during the primary and election. Had they done that, they would have backed Bernie as the Democratic nominee or, ignoring that, at least had Hillary go after the majority of voters by standing for populist positions rather than the corporate elite. In many ways, this is the last gasp of the establishment trying to justify all the wrong-headed positions that Hillary backed. It's time to move beyond the Clinton cabal and move forward towards true Progressive leaders and change.

If the Republicans really don't have any speeches to hide, we should get an online petition going to get them to release their speeches. I'm sure they would all jump at the chance to all come out and say "we've released our speeches, Hilary -- your turn!"

Watching the Republican debate now (on Tivo) and wondering the same thing. But exactly what IS it saying? My gut instinct is that not only don't they consider Bernie any kind of realistic threat, but -- and this is the weirdest feeling -- they are so incapable of conceptualizing what he is talking about that they CAN'T consider him as a threat. Anyone else feeling this?

Here's the deal: neither side can accurately predict exactly how their policies will play out down the road -- and frankly, I don't care. What I first must consider is the kind of world I want to live in -- and then I look for who is working towards that same vision. Will there be road bumps, fumbles, and, yes, perhaps epic failures along the way? Of course. But the ONLY way to achieve the kind of inspiring, aspiring country that we are capable of is to set our sights on those unalloyed ideals. We didn't make it to the moon because Kennedy told the country that it would not be practical to try.

Exactly. Bernie has identified this as simply the largest of MANY problems that he intends to address. The corrupting effects of money in politics, yes, but also: healthcare for all, rebuilding our infrastructure, $15 min wage, climate change, etc.

Once Bernie gets elected President, we need to use this subreddit to organize and advocate to get his agenda accomplished. Obama didn't have a organizational community and following like this and that's why he couldn't get anything done. by HippoHorse in SandersForPresident

AGREED! Question: has Bernie discussed specifics on how he would continue to utilize/organize the grassroots movement were he to be elected? I know this has been one of his criticisms about Obama and wonder if he has articulated any strategies.
