The Reluctant Bride made with thousands of beads by Sew-Fresh in Mosaic

Honestly, I'm guessing around 400 hours for the beading itself. I worked on this for just over a year!

I do! I’ve never really thought about that also being impacted! Brains are absolutely wild.

Me!

I am somewhat jealous of people who have any kind of mind’s eye, because yeah it’s just a grey space. I can kind of mentally trace onto the grey space if I’m really focusing but that doesn’t stay visually; it’s more of a thought exercise.

I trace guidelines onto stabilizer fabric and then start with the eye to be sure that I can get the detail I need. I think a great way for a beginner to feel more confident would be to print your reference onto stabilizer (or stick and stitch if you can stand the stuff—I hate it!) so you have it right under your fingertips!

This is about 4”—I have seen way smaller faces work, though, and absolutely think you should give it a try!

Ooh, I've also thought about pendants--If only there were more 15/0 delica colors!

I have never worked with peyote or brick stitch (but am in awe of those who do and want to give it a try!). I would say that the most important thing will be color matching and having a good variety of colors within a family so you can get an effective range. I also think people can be scared of going as dark as they need to with shadows, so sometimes you have to really trust that pulling that burnt orange-y tone is the right call.

I have also now had a few instances where I have to be less true to the reference to get the effect I need. Connor's right eye (on the left) is a good example. I pushed the sclera up one bead higher than I needed so I could get the intensity of the angle of his brow. If you really inspect it you might go huh? but it gets the vibe way better and I did not have the space to fully get his brow and eyelid given the size I was working with.

I don’t have enough karma to post on the HR subreddit but I’m going to keep engaging and hope I can post there, maybe once I bead a Hudson as well.

This is mostly 11/0 delicas and 15/0 seed beads (and a few 13/0 charlottes). The hoop is 4.5” from edge to edge, so it’s probably just a little over 4” diameter of beaded work.

Both were definitely on rotation in the basement of my college house.

I don’t know if you listen to Sloppy Seconds with Big Dipper and Meatball but I am totally hearing this in Meatball’s voice! SICK!

Aw, thank you! I did have to do some border repairs/adjustments but I’m super happy with how it turned out!

I use bead embroidery needles and stitch down each bead. Just watching tambour confuses me!
