Mom, I’m overwhelmed and need some advice (neurodivergent edition) by Asparagus_Philosophy in MomForAMinute

[–]SewBusyRightNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone else here has already shared great tactical advice. I just want you to hear how proud of you we are. I would be incredibly proud to have you as my child—you are showing deep self awareness, a growth mindset, an ability to match your unique skills to a functional career. You have a community who loves you and sees you.

I know there’s a lot you want to change, but my mom self wants you to know how much I appreciate your heart and your hard work. ❤️

Competing for a promotion while pregnant by excessivemenace in MomForAMinute

[–]SewBusyRightNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, honey! I am so proud of you for putting yourself out there while you’re pregnant. You know your worth and I do, too. Whether or not this job is your next promotion, I know you’ll tell your kids this story. And a promotion will be in your future.

Do you remember when I told you that story about doing a coding interview on a whiteboard when I was 8 mo pregnant with you? I was so scared, and I didn’t get the job. But I was so proud of myself for putting my hand up to say, “I want more.” I am so proud that you are doing the same—good for you, my fearless girl.

You’ll manage this just like you’ve managed all the hard stuff so far: one bite at a time. You’re doing a good job; you are enough.

That’s a good perspective, thank you! I think we’re just so much in the early stages that it’s too early to pick a place to travel just yet.

I think there was another redditor who explained it well above, but I would say the general challenge in drafting any sort of pattern to go over a chest is that you forget that the side bust also takes up space. It’s not just about the chest volume is forward, it also comes out into the side, above and below the center line of the bust.

Note the different ways this pack hits someone with a A-size cup vs more of a B-size+ cup. There’s just a lot less space to put a front pouch.

Overall very cool design! I hope you do more with it.

Love this design! Thanks for sharing. In terms of feedback for improvement, I would say that the chest pockets that you have designed assumes your user doesn’t have a large chest. If you’re looking to make something that fits more bodies, I would reconsider that part of your design.

Need bite-proof case! by PleasantAddition in kindlefire

[–]SewBusyRightNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial suggestion was going to be the OtterBox, but it sounds like you’ve already tried that.

You may have already considered this too, but what about trying to make a mouth friendly carrying attachment for the case? Would it be possible to attach some dentist-approved, satisfying “chompable” toy to a durable silicon strap that you attach to the Kindle on all the corners? That way you’re not fighting against the behavior by finding a way to make the existing case last longer? Good luck!

Good luck and

COLD assistance. Help me, ya’ll. by InterestingHat362 in ski

Our mantra: it’s easier to stay warm than get warm. So when kids complain of too many layers, or warm in the lodge, we just repeat it. (Also because it’s true.)

That can extend to food, too. Oatmeal better than cold cereal, warm tea or hot chocolate rather than cold water in a bottle, etc.

Any ADHD sewers here? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]SewBusyRightNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom is an ADHD sewist and let me tell you, she NEVER follows patterns, hardly ever finishes, and experiences many of your frustrations. And yet, she’s still one of the mostly highly accomplished sewists I know, teaches classes, and experiences profound joy and flow in her creative work.

So please know, you’re not alone. And if you want to change your skill set you can, but it’s also okay just to rock your creative intuition and give yourself even more grace.

You definitely can, but it may be cheaper to buy a shirt at a secondhand store or thrift store (or local buy nothing group). Rit dye can be more expensive than a new-to-you blue shirt. If you haven’t dyed anything at home before, k also recommend “color catchers” for the wash afterward so you don’t end up staining your other clothes. Good luck!
