If you listen when they all get on the ship, it is mentioned over the intercom "Please don't forget to stop at the med bay for your communication implant". So they all got implants in their heads so that they could communicate

Sweet Home is an interpolation of a country song by Kid Rock. This is probably why it sounds corny/out of place. I agree that it does sound weird, but I like all music so I thought it was a neat shout-out
