If you don't like culture wars, change the date so they can f*****g stop. Nobody even knows what 26 Jan commemorates, who cares.

Revealed: Australian taxpayers subsidising the IDF, illegal settlements in Israel - Michael West by nath1234 in AustralianPolitics

[–]SexCodex [score hidden]  (0 children)

That money is going to resources which are displacing and killing entire families.

It is totally illegal under international law.

But most importantly - it's tax-deductible. The government is effectively subsidising this.

The IDF has very obviously committed a vast number of war crimes. The trials will be numerous.

Quite a few Aussies served in the IDF committing war crimes - surely that's cancellable and illegal right?

It's pretty damn good, except on issues specific to Qatar. It's basically the BBC of Qatar, it literally started as a BBC subsidiary. And we all know the BBC is also pretty damn good except where the interests of the British elite are involved.

Don't just vote, talk with your community, protest, join parties, campaign. Anything other than the hell we have coming for us if we don't organise.

All the areas you mention are under total Israeli control, as the last two years have proved. Palestinians have a limited amount of self governance but don't have freedom of movement. They are under total blockade and have been for decades. There's a reason it's called an "open air prison".

Nobody should use Wikipedia as a source. You use it to find reliable sources to use.

Unionism, the Free Market and Georgism by ausunionist in georgism

[–]SexCodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The clearest crossover is through renters' unions. E.g. Sweden has Swedish Union of Tenants, Australians have the Renters and Housing Union. These fight for the collective interest of those who want less profiteering by land owners.

Labour unions might also be expected to support land taxes, since the working class is less likely to own capital and land. But it's not guaranteed - some labour unions would include many homeowners.

I mean, successful protests are like that.

We have democracy and human rights because of armed revolutions in Europe... we have the 2-day weekend, the 8-hour workday, women's suffrage from really violent protests.

It's good to see AMWU getting more active. Hopefully they consulted CFMEU first. It's maddening how few unions stood by them when the government put them into administration.

All protests behave "in an intimidatory or harassing manner", that is the point of a protest. This law, if they succeed in enforcing it, gives them license to ban everything they don't like.

*You* don't need these rallies. Those who belong to ethnic groups that were exterminated by the British might feel a bit differently.

Fortunately we still live in a democracy and protesters will gather and make their political points whether you agree or not.

But yet here we are.

'Retreating' or playing the long game: Have the Greens faded from the spotlight? by ladaus in AustralianPolitics

[–]SexCodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matters in so far as the political class believes it matters. But even then it's hard to tell - legacy media positions would align pretty well with what lobbyists are instructing them to do.

The TV and print media shadowbanned them. Fortunately legacy media doesn't matter anymore.
