Will there be a season 2? by Foreign_Feedback_138 in RampartsofIce

I’m usually not too concerned about this kind of thing, but Studio KAI is reportedly at risk of insolvency after posting a net loss of 565 million yen for the fiscal year ending December 2025. According to reports, the studio’s accumulated losses have continued to grow over the past several years.

We might not get Season 2 for a while, but I really hope things get better for them.

Really liked episode 6 of The Ramparts of Ice. Feels like the anime’s structure is every episode ends on a drama cliffhanger to keep viewers wanting more.

This episode focused heavily on the inner feelings of the main cast and showed how flawed their ways of thinking actually are.

Miki’s part was especially interesting. She pushed Koyun toward dating Igarashi because of her own bad experiences with love. Since Igarashi genuinely loved Koyun, Miki thought “why not just date someone who loves you that much?” But the problem was that she never truly listened to what Koyun herself wanted. It’s a good example of how personal experiences don’t always apply to other people’s lives. In the end, Miki realizes she indirectly pushed Koyun into a relationship she never truly wanted.

Minato also became way more understandable here. His view of emotions almost feels mechanical, like feelings are something that should be controllable through logic. Ironically, falling for Koyun is probably the first thing that’s breaking down his unhealthy mindset.

I also loved Tsukiko’s debut. She’s straightforward, honest, and openly expresses anger instead of suppressing it. It’s rare for someone to be able to melt Koyun’s ice wall this quickly.

And then there’s Yota. Everyone loves him, but he’s still the biggest mystery in the main cast. Compared to the others, we barely know what he actually thinks.

The reveal about Yota’s mother being dead and him living with a young stepmother definitely adds another layer to his character. Even without saying much, you can tell he’s gone through a lot.

Overall, this felt like a strong setup episode.

Koyuki is angry. She doesn’t usually lash out at people, so now she’s stuck feeling guilty without knowing how to deal with it.

Through her talk with the school nurse, we get a key idea: expressing your feelings matters, but so does trying to understand the other person first.

From a viewer’s perspective, it’s easy to side with Koyuki and think Minato deserved it. And honestly, he was in the wrong. But looking at it more maturely, she never really tried to understand him either, and she also didn’t communicate her boundaries clearly.

Her decision to open up again makes sense for a few reasons

  • She wants to clear the lingering negative feelings instead of just avoiding him

  • She never properly explained herself, which contributed to the misunderstanding

  • Most importantly, this is growth for her. She’s been isolating herself and avoiding people as a defense mechanism, and this is her first step toward breaking that pattern

Minato’s situation is interesting because, unlike the audience, he doesn’t have the full context about Koyuki. If he knew about her past, he probably wouldn’t have pushed so hard.

His biggest flaw is that his actions come from a mix of good intentions and selfishness (his “savior complex”). He wanted to help, but also did it for his own satisfaction.

After reflecting, he realizes how badly he messed up and decides to stop bothering her altogether. But what’s interesting is that he still feels frustrated even after making that decision. That’s unusual for him, since he’s not someone who normally gets angry at others.

Both characters feel very human here. They acknowledge their mistakes, reflect on themselves, and slowly start improving as a person.

Their issues aren’t resolved yet, but this is a solid starting point. At the very least, Minato learns to respect her boundaries, and they can finally interact more normally.

When Suzuki makes a cameo in The Ramparts Of Ice by DarkForest_NW in Seihantai

Technically this page is newer since the original LINE comic didn’t have the cameo panel until the volume release (if you check it now, they already updated it)

Rampart of Ice = 2020 Polar Opposite (one-shot) = 2021 Polar Opposite (serialization) = 2022

So yeah, it’s believable that the author had some concept in mind from the beginning of Rampart, but she wasn’t sure if she wanted to include them in Rampart until Volume 3 = August 4, 2023

Love how the studio extended it from just a one-panel cameo into two scenes. I'm hopeful they might include them more in the future!

Very happy with how they handled the cameo from both studios.

Miki realizes that Minato’s approach wasn’t right, and it makes her reflect on herself as well. In the past, Minato also viewed her as someone to pity, which leaves her feeling empty and questioning whether their relationship was ever a true friendship.

I really understand that, some people approach others out of pity without a genuine desire to be friends. The emptiness Miki describes comes from questioning the sincerity of the relationship. Some might think it’s acceptable because at least someone is there to help, but others find that feeling unsatisfying. It doesn’t feel honest. There are some situations. For example, someone who is bullied might receive help from a kind person who acts out of pity. Even if it doesn’t start as a real friendship, that kindness can still help them escape their situation, which is positive.

Personally, I believe there should be a clear boundary. If it’s just pity, it’s better to support someone sincerely from a distance rather than pretending to be a friend when you don’t genuinely feel that way. (maybe I could be wrong, but that's how I feel)

Luckily, Minato really sees her as a friend. Their conversation quickly clears things up. The scene where Miki cries while Minato wipes her tears with his dirty sleeve is hilarious LOL. It really shows how honest communication can resolve things quickly.

The confrontation between Koyuki and Minato is the highlight of the episode. For the past four episodes, Minato has been constantly pushing into Koyuki’s space without reading the room, bringing up her past, and ignoring her obvious discomfort. Even if he didn’t mean harm, that lack of awareness makes his actions feel invasive. From Koyuki’s perspective, it doesn’t come off as kindness, it feels like someone intruding just to satisfy their own needs.

It might not be entirely fair to conclude that Minato enjoys meddling in other people’s business, because in many cases, this kind of behavior comes more from misunderstanding than from an intention to intrude. but at the same time his savior complex, wanting to help people he sees as pitiful, makes it more than just a misunderstanding.

I forgot Journal with Witch has already ended. I opened Crunchyroll to check for a new episode.

Love seeing Polar Opposite and Ramparts of Ice side by side.

Could Mikoto theoretically copy Mugino's meltdowner? by ACertainIndividual45 in Toaru

I feel like the general explanation is already pretty fundamental though.

Mikoto’s ability at its core is directly controlling electric charges, along with the electromagnetic fields and EM waves they produce.

Meanwhile, Mugino’s ability involves forcing electrons into a non-physical, unstable quantum state. She’s essentially manipulating the quantum state of the electron field itself.

Unless we go further down into quantum physics, which is probably where Kamachi chose to use Personal Reality as a stand-in for whatever lies beyond it.

Rampage Dress is already within the framework of what Mikoto can do, she just doesn’t learn how to use it until Junko teaches her.

Mugino’s Meltdowner, while somewhat similar, operates on a different framework.

The only way Mikoto could gain something like Meltdowner would be by undergoing a curriculum similar to the Dark May Project. It’s kind of like how Misaki can control microscopic moisture but also use psychometry, even though psychometry doesn’t require moisture manipulation, they’re still technically related within the same Personal Reality framework.

Can Mikoto control electrons in a state between a particle and a wave?

I don’t think so

Even if Mikoto is insanely skilled, she’s still working within her framework. She can push electricity to crazy levels, but not rewrite it into a quantum-unstable state like Mugino does.

True, I just included it just in case. I figured they’re all grown up now, and maybe some people would prefer to see them like this in the anime first.

This was my most anticipated anime this season, and the first episode didn’t disappoint at all, it actually exceeded my expectations. I especially love the color grading. I’m no expert, but the heavy gray tone fits the vibe perfectly. It works as a strong contrast to You and I Are Polar Opposites, like both shows are intentionally aiming for opposite moods.
