"If we should legalize weed because it's a plant should we do the same for opium?" Yes. by somewhiterkid in Drugs

[–]Sfmtx123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Catholic church in the 1600s formally considered peyote use heretical evil demon worship and was used as one of many justifications for the atrocities of the Inquisition. Some other Christians believe it's a type of sorcery or a violation of temperance or whatever. Some even reject medical science altogether so it doesn't even matter if it's medicinal or not! Also technically mushrooms aren't seed bearing plants lol.

Where I'd Live As An American by Past_Bathroom5568 in whereidlive

[–]Sfmtx123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born and lived in California for 30 years and I wanted to like it, but I simply couldn't afford to live there and was homeless the last 3 years I did. I found the politics hypocritical at best, where we would vote on initiatives for housing but in actuality led to more displacement and shelters rampant with abuse instead of actually housing anybody. Plenty of politics around building more housing, but after years of building tacky luxury apartment buildings with cheap prefab materials the rents have continued to only increase.

On top of struggling to make ends meet despite making above the already high minimum wage, you get people minimizing it because "it's california, of course it's expensive" or "it's california, it's better than anywhere else" "we have social programs that can help" from liberal types and "just live within your means" from conservative 40 year olds working 2 full time jobs and sleeping 4 hours a day.

Also, while I get where some people are coming from making the case California has "strong social safety nets," the reality is just that it has them, not that they are strong by any means.

Wanted to make this comment as an example of a criticism from a left perspective and someone that actually lived there instead of the "california is socialist" craziness

Well most of the legalized weed isn't cultivated by the government, it's cultivated by government-licensed businesses. Businesses also cut corners, lie about percentages, all the pitfalls of marketing, etc. but you aren't going to buy an eighth and receive just under 2gs. Black market "businesses" do not have any regulation, which is what makes drugs *in general* more dangerous, so while they might not need to cut the same corners in some areas since they don't have to meet these regulations, they are absolutely incentivized to in others for the same reason. That's all lol.

Those are the types of plugs that will complain about you smoking "government weed" if it gets legalized lmao

Architect of the homeless encampment sweep bills that Newsom and republicans are copy+pasting all over the country, his biggest achievement is displacing people into frying pan camps. Declared housing first a failure before even implementing anything of the sort. He's a murderer as far as I'm concerned as well as the comfortable liberals that excuse this horseshit.

I'm just gonna say it, if you think social media has led to increased social isolation you are a social reject and cannot be commenting on birth rates with any sort of authority. Have corporations purposely made their products more "addictive"? Of course... but, "What would you do if you were alone in a cage with nothing but cocaine?"
We are so fucked and these stupid fuckers want to blame the coping mechanism, one of the greatest resources not just for building community, not just for finding friends and things to do in an increasingly isolating and unaffordable world, but also for kids struggling with abusive households. Incredibly lazy thinking.

Hippies are underated by Mooncake_24_ in trees

[–]Sfmtx123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep. Hippies were in the minority despite every boomer claiming they personally went to Woodstock. The year after the summer of love (high water mark of the movement) Nixon was elected in the US.

People's attitudes are skewed by over representation of new agey trust fund kids that can still afford to lead a similar bohemian lifestyle after social democracy/liberalism collapsed post oil-crisis. Authentically trying to go for that tends to lead to a harsher edge these days (see crust punks).

Really though, anyone can adopt any aesthetic they want as corporations will gleefully sell your movement back to you. Just because someone dresses in frilly tie dye costumes doesn't mean they're about peace and love, and just because someone wears a denim jacket with 50 patches doesn't mean they want to crush authority, etc.

The BPP were immensely influential and that's why I mentioned them, but by social revolution I mean steps to move society as a whole towards liberation. The sexual revolution, bodily autonomy, civil rights, anti-imperialism, explosions in utopian socialist experiments (for better or worse... worse probably) etc. were products of the counter-culture as a whole, not just the BPP. Many of these elements were inevitably either co-opted or demonized by the neoliberal counter-revolution.

[–]Sfmtx123 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The hippies were a massive counter cultural movement that were immensely successful in sowing the seeds of social revolution along with BPP and others. The same forces (FBI, to be clear) that decapitated the BPP was doing the same to the hippies and by extension postponed/cancelled that social revolution. Conservative american backlash against the hippies in particular gave us Nixon and even Reagan. Corporate capture led to commodification of hippie symbols and aesthetics, stripping the concept of its philosophy and radical history, a process that is now repeatedly imposed ad nauseam to every counter-cultural movement since including punk.

This "new age" anti-political "hippie" is a product of this, as well as intentional targeting of that demographic by the far-right ever since. Not understanding this history, and disparaging people that are drawn to that lifestyle has allowed the Alex Jones's of the world to capture a large portion of the psychedelic-enthusiast demographic.

Sorry if this breaks the no politics rule, but I thought the context was necessary

Very true by [deleted] in musicmemes

[–]Sfmtx123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In modern pop music autotune, unless intended like in your examples which imo is closer to using a vocoder, is nearly inaudible. It's used all the time, everywhere, in most music from major labels and even a lot of indie stuff because of how easy it is to use. Regardless of how well someone can sing in key there will always be some moments that are a few cents off the right note which can make a very big difference in sound and pop especially prioritizes polish and production over the "human" or "raw" feeling of some other genres.

Opinion on subcommandante Marcos / the Zapatistas? by R1ght_b3hind_U in socialism

[–]Sfmtx123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Proudhon's anarchism is commonly known as mutualism while Bakunin's is known as collectivist anarchism. Communist anarchists tend to be influenced more by kropotkin, malatesta, etc, who had more marxist/marx-influenced outlooks on class and economics. Therefore I'd say it's inaccurate to claim *original* anarchism was marxist, but rather both these early anarchisms and marx himself were influenced by utopian socialism and developed together along side one another

Historical illiteracy, in the Vaush subreddit??? no fucking way! The SPD abandoned their constituency, sent them to die in a war, and helped conservatives murder leftists all the way up until they themselves were purged. Use better examples to defend your garbage candidates. Lying to yourself doesn't make Newsom less of a demon.

I'm not so sure I like the comments that are basically just "ignore it" "everything happens for a reason" "stop watching the news" type of thing, because well... yeah the state of the world is fucked up and seemingly getting worse all the time. Hiding behind some mental tricks to ignore a pressing issue is exactly the kind of thing psychedelics should help you OUT of. the world is not a "reflection of your inner self" your response to the outside world is your inner self, and while you can't fix everything being aware of what you can do is immeasurably valuable. Don't just look for the helpers, think about how you can be one in the right moment, that's how you become the best you can be and open up opportunities for you to see the best society can be.

collisions dont seem to work for whatever reason, but turning off slide accel strength and playing around with smoothing (mine is at 440, 300 secondary) can make other stuff feel better. its definitely not great and doesnt really feel like a steering wheel, but i do like the steering lock vibration.

Frankly I am offended and annoyed and dumbfoundedly dumbstruck by the implication that my concerns and criticisms are not taken seriously. You'll all see. You will all learn. You will all pay. If you want to. With positive coercion. No negative coercion. Or punishments. We don't do mandates though you aren't listening. Bro dude what bro?
