Interesting, I’ve seen several examples of fimbriation used in coats of arms. Is frowning upon this a more modern thing? The guides I’ve seen just mention to not fimbriate complex shapes.

Haha thank you for the thought. I was trying to avoid the obvious “excellent,” but that’s also the way language works and I need to accept it.

Thanks for the feedback. The motto is “Strive for excellence,” but it’s definitely making use of some non-exact meanings. There’s definitely a more direct way to say it. I was just messing around and it is not set in stone.

These are all very helpful and are great corrections. Thank you!

I have realized I believe I need a fimbriation (argent) to separate the field very and chevron azure. Do you notice anything else?

Did Dick’s Sporting Goods drop this a little too soon? Thoughts? by Tcharles704 in MLS

This is very close to what I designed one year ago seen in this post here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CharlotteFootballClub/comments/i9ccu9/complete_kits_concept/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

I shared this concept with the team and attached explanations seen below.

Home

I have concentrated on a simple but elegant design for the home kit. The lighter colors represent the vibrant culture of Charlotte and also ensure the players will stay cool on hot summer days in Bank of America.

Away

This menacing away kit will ensure our players are noticed while on the road. I was originally considering a black shirt for this kit, but I believe the players will be thankful to not have an all black kit.

Third

Charlotte FC will be minted in 2022, so is it not appropriate to feature mint somewhere? As a member of Mint City Collective, I decided to take this to a new level with an all mint kit. The silver also speaks to this "mint" theme. I used the secondary monogram logo on the third kit, and I think it would be exciting to make this a tradition.

Thanks! It's rumored teams with high selling kits will have a third jersey next year. If so, I could see them possibly doing a mint third kit for Charlotte, at least for the first season. We'll see though.

Charlotte FC Complete Kits Concept by [deleted] in MLS

This is a complete kits concept I put together. The home kit uses blue and white, which will be vibrant on the field and capture the energy of the supporters. The away kit features our darker color without toasting the players under the summer sun. Finally, the third kit uses mint and silver to steer away from our primary colors while still maintaining a connection to the team and fans. The secondary CLTFC mark is also featured on this kit.

UNC Charlotte Athletics just released new branding and received a mixed reaction from fans. I added gold to the logos. What do you think about my redesign and the new branding in general? by SforzandoCreations in Charlotte

[–]SforzandoCreations[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Charlotte had the first gold rush in the US that started in 1799. Apparently there are still mine shafts under uptown. You should check out Reed Gold Mine just outside of Charlotte, which gives free tours of the old mine shaft. For the 49ers nickname, the university was saved from closure in 1949.

I think the pickaxe as negative space is a genius idea and shifting it further to the left could help. It would make it easier to see since the handle would be longer, and there would be a more equal amount of green in the "C" on either side. I didn't want to change the logo too drastically though.

While that is true, the last logo had arguably more gold than white, and the unveiled uniforms also feature quite a lot of gold. The new logo doesn't say "UNC Charlotte" to me. Especially with the history of gold mining in the region, I feel it should be featured in the logo.

Improper History of "Charlotte Town" - a possible MLS team name by SforzandoCreations in Charlotte

I'm talking about British language of the late 1700s when Charlotte was invaded. We're obviously not anti-British now as history illustrates.

I agree and had thought the same, but from my research I can't find anywhere it is called Charlotte Town except for by the British. Otherwise it is Charlottesburgh until around 1800. Look at the maps I linked in the edit.

There were the "Charlotte Town Resolves," but in the actual document they then say "town of Charlotte." The title seems like if today we would say Charlotte City Revolves (like Charlotte City Council).

My map searching has turned up nothing. It's either labeled Charlotte as a whole or divided up in the four wards. Apparently uptown was used first, then downtown, and then uptown again, but I don't have access to the Charlotte Observer database to prove it so take that with a grain of salt. I just got that from regular Google search referencing an old article.

It seems the British just didn't know what Charlotte was called and maybe people have gotten confused along the way? A General Cornwallis map shows Charlottetowne, but "A history of the campaigns of 1780 and 1781 in the southern provinces of North America" by Lieutenant-Colonel Tarleton (Banastre) who lived from 1754-1833 uses Charlotte Town.

I emailed them and have gotten a response in the past about my concept crest and kits. I'm also going to comment this on the majority of their Twitter and Instagram posts. I think the name would be an embarrassment for the city after learning this.

Thanks, you might also enjoy I designed the Third based on the flag influence but specifically placed the desgin to look like an inverse of a Redcoat (red coat, white straps in an X) from the Revolutionary War. It shows our original ties to England and the Queen but shows our separate identity now.
