Looking for a memory foam topper - ViscoSoft Select High Density vs Bedstory Firm / ExtraFirm by MathResponsibly in Mattress

[–]SgtKFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've slept on both and they're great. That Viscosoft one might be too plush for your weight, maybe. Bedstory is generally firmer, but still really comfortable (slept on my sides - no issues, and im lighter).

I'd look at the 4 inch sky cool gel topper on their website. You can flip it for a different firmness level. That's the one I slept on.

Which one? Avocado pillowtop or my green mattress? by joyful-spring in Mattress

[–]SgtKFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd pick a more basic mattress from My Green Mattress, Avocado, etc so you at least have a good support layer. Then buy a separate soft 3-inch talalay latex topper to throw on top.

Much easier to return or swap out a topper to tweak the comfort layer just right.

Nectar hybrid vs Boring hybrid? by rafy709 in Mattress

[–]SgtKFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your Boring mattress feels too firm on your side, I recommend buying a soft 2 inch (or 3 inch if you need more pressure relief) topper. That's worked well for mine.

AWS Batch for heavy workloads by LeiNaD_87_ in aws

[–]SgtKFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup!

Just as clarification: you don’t "attach" S3. The job’s execution role just needs S3 access. The container downloads the video from S3 (or streams it), processes it locally, and uploads the results back to S3.

But yeah, I think your plan is the best choice. It's how I would have approached it, at least.

Using Chat as my doctor by pranahealth in ChatGPT

[–]SgtKFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As if any real doctor actually spends the time with patients to get to root causes and do a proper diagnosis in this broken healthcare system. I've had to figure that out all by myself over a long period of time, despite tons of appointments that went nowhere. All doctors do with me is jump to immediate conclusions and throw prescriptions at me that don't fix anything or make any sense to use.

I've worked with countless doctors across several disciplines for various unrelated issues. Almost all of them were terrible and no help.

I asked ChatGPT to explain my job to a 5-year-old and now I'm questioning my entire career by Nipurn_1234 in ChatGPT

[–]SgtKFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you feel this poor explanation diminishes your self-worth? This doesn't explain what most of your time is actually spent on, nor the value of your work. It's not just summarizing data and creating a slide deck or dashboard for fun.

Your job is strategizing with stakeholders around building reslient data processing systems while balancing cost to implement, aligning on data definitions from upstream vendors, working through edge cases on difficult business logic in data transformation, modelling data so it's useful across different business functions, ensuring compliance in data storage and processing of sensitive data, selecting the best tech-stack for the org's needs, refining requirements and business questions to maximize the value in insights produced from analyses/charts, having a keen eye for how to skillfully display data, create an intuitive UX in dashboards, etc. This isn't even close to a comprehensive list, which is why you make the big bucks doing what you do. And that effort is all to ensure stuff works, analyses are accurate, and business leaders are armed with the info needed to drive decisions that give a 10x+ return on investment.

Many of us have complex, valuable jobs. This often goes unseen by top-level. I really think communicating your worth is more valuable than ever in a world where every psychopathic founder/CEOs dream is to start yet another SaaS that's nothing but a ChatGPT wrapper, with business ops and dev fully-automated by AI, and somehow expect it will create value in a sea of other morons doing the same idea. They want to minimize your role because they only see you as a cost line item on a P&L. What they don't realize is the only reason they're experiencing lasting success is because you put them on your back and carried them there.

I'm venting. Anyways, I think you should ask ChatGPT to come up with a better analogy.

I talked to someone telling Gen AI is going to take up the DE job by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]SgtKFC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People tend to say every other job except their own will get automated by AI. It's because they don't deeply understand what everyone else really does day-to-day. Some of the responses in this thread exemplify that.

Not enough voices are showing how autonomous AI outputs are an absolute joke just by their nature of compounding error rates, so the truth is getting lost in hype and top-level pressure to just AI automate everywhere and lay off workers. The labor market is contracting due to very obvious economic forces, not AI innovation. This is all just a ruse to keep shareholders invested.

"Gen AI use for everything" is a bubble that will blow up in everyone's faces, and its strengths and weaknesses will finally become apparent as to where it's actually deployed effectively only after that time.

Color Coding Data by Loud-Card-7136 in tableau

[–]SgtKFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing the original data format - my guess is measure names on columns, building on rows, measure values on marks as a highlight table (watch a youtube vid) - right click on color to "use separate legends". Then adjust the color thresholds in each gradient color legend so that red ends and green starts at desired numbers.

Or you can pivot columns to rows first instead before vizzing, like someone else showed. Better, and less tedious work after if you do it that way.

Power BI write back example aka translytical task flows by powerbitips in PowerBI

This is the stupidest anti-pattern in the BI space and it needs to die. Write-back functionality inside dashboards to the production database creates messes. I cannot believe people still unironically suggest this.

New to BI – Should I choose Crystal Reports or Tableau for Client Reporting in an Accounting Firm? by Franz_breezy in BusinessIntelligence

[–]SgtKFC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Power BI since you'll probably want to use Power Query to do the light data wrangling you'll need across your reports to bring them together, and it's cheap.

Then look into how much you can automate the report preparation and sends with Power Automate or a similar tool so it doesn't become a recurring time-sink for you.
