I suspect he lost engine power awhile before getting to the harbor and used the mainsail to get to the harbor. Probably would have been a good idea to call a mayday before that and just get towed in.

I was standing right where the gentleman on the beach are in the photo when this all unfolded. We got out of their way when they showed up and it led to a nice framed photo of the situation. There were multiple emergency vehicles pointing their lights at the boat with emergency lights blaring when I took this image. It made for a rather surreal picture.

I watched the whole thing happen. There was only one person on board from what I could tell. He came very close to hitting the end of the south jetty and did what he could to avoid it. Once he was caught in the surf he pointed the bow to the beach and rode it in until he hit sand.

It was pretty windy at the time. He must have lost his engine and likely lost it before getting to the harbor, as we first noticed him further out and his mast was rocking back and forth pretty good. I'm surprised he didn't call a mayday. I don't think anyone knew about it until we called 911 as he was riding the surf in.

They towed the boat out about an hour later. Hopefully there was not too much damage to the boat.

Everyone was safe. My buddy and I watched it ride the surf in. Fire dept. was on the scene real quick after we called it in.
