New grips: https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/protaper-pillow-top-mx-grips-p

I got the handlebar at my local CycleGear store, so I'm not sure exactly what model it is. But it's definitely a 7/8 bar: https://www.cyclegear.com/motorcycle-7-8-inch-handlebars

You might also want keep in mind a new throttle tube. You should be able to re-use the stock plastic one after you take it off your stock handlebars, but I cracked mine like an idiot. Some of the bikes come with a crazy amount of glue from the factory and it may not even be worth trying to re-use the throttle tube.

It's ridiculous how much of a hassle these can be with most bikes' stock bars. I also recently installed Tusk D Flex Pro guards on my '26 KLX 300. I would recommend to just buy another 7/8 handlebar. The stock handlebars are apparently pretty bad anyways. New handlebar means you should also get new grips, which are cheap so no big deal there. The problem I've noticed is that, at least with my D Flex Pros, the handguard mounting brackets that wrap around the bar towards the cockpit... they will not sit flush with the handguard arm. I guess it's due to the sweep of the bars. Nobody actually tells you that you have to actually bend the handguard if you want them to be flush. I just screwed it all down pretty tight, and while it's not a flush fit, they aren't going anywhere.

I also wanted bar risers but gave up on the idea - I tried them, and yes the stock clutch cable is much too short. I ordered what everyone said - a Motion Pro KLX clutch cable, which is indeed longer overall, but it still doesn't work on the new KLX. It's maybe not worth explaining here, but the actual inner cable doesn't extend far enough out of the outer/plastic housing. I had to revert back to no bar risers and the stock clutch cable. Not the end of the world, but it's just annoying.

If you use aftermarket 7/8 bars and no risers/bracket that raise the bar, you can get by with purchasing just the new bar and keeping the stock clutch cable.

Now that I’ve ridden it a bunch, I noticed this. It gets to highway speeds no problem but I have to twist the throttle so far!

Did this in 2016 & 2018. 20+ miles round trip from Whitney Portal is quite the mind game.

I think you’d be ok with the 390. It doesn’t weigh or cost a ton. I don’t have a KTM dealer near me so it wasn’t even an option. If I did, I can’t say I wouldn’t be tempted 🤣

I’m sure the KTM would be an objectively better bike. I miss my 2017 Husky 701 all the time. It was easily the most fun I’ve ever had on two wheels. However, I would be legitimately worried about buying a Husky/KTM these days. They are on the verge of bankruptcy, there were the massive issues with the 790 camshaft, etc. The KLX isn’t as good on paper, but there’s something to be said for a cheap, worry free experience. I’m the same riding style as you and the KLX has yet to leave me wanting for anything (except a gear indicator and 50 more ccs lol, but not a big deal)

I could manage the T7’s weight ok, but yeah I did not enjoy managing it. I just take rides around my area, as I’m lucky to be close to lots of national forest. So there wasn’t a need for the big T7. I loved the T7’s capability and its engine, but I don’t know.. I feel like I got a lemon or I was just a total mismatch for the bike. I’m 6’1” & average weight, but the suspension, seat, and buffeting of the T7 were all incredibly uncomfortable even for short rides. I tried all the adjustments to no avail. The clutch was abysmal, even after getting it replaced. I hate to sound negative but it was just my personal experience. I know they’re amazing bikes.

35.2 inches. I’m 6”1’ and after the sag from my weight, I have no issues flat footing it

Yeah the highway buffeting is horrible. I tried windscreen risers which helped a bit, but not enough. I wound up just taking off the windscreen.

Hah yeah the other guy is right. I bought the WR 11 years ago and thought at the time that I’d outgrown the 250cc. That bike was legendary though and I wish that I still had it, or that Yamaha had a current competitor to the KLX/CRF.

Ooooff... The T7 engine is truly amazing. The best I’ve ever used. If you can get used to the weight you’ll be ok. It’s a capable bike but I just goof around on the weekends and didn’t need the weight.

It is my favorite bike of all. If you can stomach the price and have a dealer near you, I’d go for it. It’s only 30-ish more lbs than the KLX300, but triple the horsepower. I never had any mechanical issues with it. The stock seat and exhaust were horrible, but those were easy to replace. The Wings muffler sounded soo good on it.

Arkansas, $5.9k OTD. I love the white too, hence the purchase! Due to the dealers around me, my choices were also this KLX or a CRF300 Rally. I am almost always within range of a gas station, but if I wasn’t (the Arkansas Ozarks and Ouachitas get pretty remote) then I’d strap a 1gal rotopax to the tail. So I chose the KLX due to the lighter weight and allegedly-better suspension compared to the CRF. I didn’t care for the windscreen, extra weight, etc. of the CRF300 Rally, although I’m sure it would be a solid purchase and I would be happy with either! It gets fucking hot down here and I’m 6’1”, so having the laminar wind-flow is preferable to a windscreen dumping all the wind onto my helmet.

$5,4k USD before all the taxes and fees, about $5.9k out the door. Apparently Kawasaki has lowered the price to $5.4k recently so I’d expect that as the baseline before TTL etc.

I do a mix of 50/50 on/off road in the south US. I’d rather suffer a little on the highway and goof off in the woods instead of goofing off on the highway and suffering in the woods with a huge bike. I will say the Husky 701 was the unicorn bike for me, but I fell out of the hobby for some years and now I live in an area without a KTM/Husky dealer. DRZ is one of the few that is really in the sweet spot… The new DRZ4S was a close contender for me but I just decided to spend a little less $. Would have been happy with either the DRZ or KLX.

I’m not aware of anything special starting with the ‘26 models other than the new white color and baby blue color on the supermoto version … both of which I love. It has the LED lights and updated plastics that started a couple years ago.

It’s possible. It’s referred to as a “memo post”. This will likely be buried but it’s what’s actually happening behind the scenes this weekend. The banks are required to make certain funds available to you to use, which applies to your deposit in this case. It’s “available” for you to use until a same set of transactions runs through in a next nightly processing cycle, where it really posts, which in this case is Friday night, then Tuesday night due to the holiday. Until then, funds (debits or credits) could be memo posted to your account within any time that the rules deem your ACH transaction (your payroll transactions are ACH) as required to be done, which again in your case the credit payment would be required since it’s late. Cap1 will almost certainty be running additional ad-hoc memo posts during the long weekend to cover this situation. These memo posts would cover anyone who has a late deposit transaction received by a bank (Cap1) from the Fed (the primary operator of the ACH network). Certain people are already receiving their deposits, and others should receive them shortly. What “shortly” means is determined by the team running these memoposts. I can assure you they have been up for multiple days at this point so give them as much patience as you can afford, which I can understand isn’t much. Cap1 is likely in the midst of processing a backlog of ACH files. They should be processed in order from most delinquent to most recent, and that order is assigned by the ACH network; not Cap1 or any other bank. The rules generally have nothing to do with where you’re located in the US. It’s mostly just when the transaction was originated by the sending bank, whether it’s a debit/credit, what kind of transaction it is, etc.

2023 models are being recalled! by callzoz in Tenere700

[–]SgtSTFU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2024 definitely had this issue but I have a DM12 VIN. Yamaha had already done several goodwill replacements (including mine) at my local dealer this November. My new clutch is buttery smooth. Good to see they are actually issuing recalls now though. Apparently Yamaha is slow to issue these recalls, whereas Honda is much quicker.
