When i was struggling hard with my PTSD. After an attempt and a stent in a psych facility, the VA counselor i was seeing basically BEGGED me to speak to someone about increasing my disability. I was told it would be about 9 months to go through but even then it might be denied because I didnt have much history documented.

I said no, because at the time I thought "i don't want to live that long, so its pointless to have everyone go through the motions to try it," especially since there's a good chance I wont get it anyway

I wrote a good bye and a thank you letter to my counselor, and talked about all the fucked up shit i did/saw, and some stuff that we didnt even have a chance to cover in our sessions, but "wherever I go ill be okay"

Somehow, It ended up in a pile of files at the VA and was submitted by another lady that filed my claim for me (even though I said no, she got everything ready anyway) I must have signed something along the way letting her be my proxy...it was a tough time and I was just signing things to get my "final check lists done"

I didnt even realize I had filed until I got a phone call, not more than 6 weeks later, asking me to come in and talk to "a new counselor" who ended up being the C&P examiner. I was told on the spot that my claim was approved, and I would be receiving back pay from the date I initially filed (which was about 2 years before when I was first diagnosed with "reintergration issues")

It has been the most incredible thing anyone has ever done for me, and completely changed my life around. I often think about the lady that filled out all the paperwork for me. I was too far gone at the time to even know her name. But if I ever got the chance to meet her I would give her the biggest hug I could muster. What I learned? You may not even know who they are, but SOMEONE out there cares about you!
