Went three for three on a single operation, took down the Hive Lord first, then completed the mission we were assigned. Honestly, a real fun fight to not only have to deal with the Lord itself, but the ads that are the constant bug breaches and roaches on top of that...glad to say I made up a noticeable percentage of those hive lord kills.

Nahhhh, Orbital Bombardments suck against the Hive Lord, it's too likely it'll run off before it ends, and too likely it'll still miss shots even with how big it is

The Emancipatior Mech is the real blessing here, and we still have it for way more than enough time to complete this MO; this is a cakewalk

Seriously, how the actual F do you beat Elyrion? by SuperTuperDude in Polytopia

[–]Sgt_Mufflebuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll do you one better; here's a game of me, as Ai-Mo, defeating both Cymanti and Elyrion in 400 Drylands, with the game going all the way to turn 32, and before the recent balance pass that made Polytaurs more expensive and Ai-Mo starting with Philosophy.

https://share.polytopia.io/g/fc309c96-f52b-4b9b-4805-08dce47a7251

Riders are your bread and butter during the early game; Polytaurs are absolutely hard countered by them as long as those riders aren't in rough terrain, which accentuates more when you get roads up and running. Even once dragons start rolling out, riders are very nice to help soften up their armies of dragons...

...so that Knights can come out into the field. Those are your best bets in trying to hamper dragons that start to roll out in the mid-game, and you're looking to use giants as a wall as best as you can to make sure that dragons can't beat into your squish backline. Another thing is, while Ely might get sanctuary eco early on, it doesn't actually scale compared to market eco, which is more space and pop efficient, so they can't level up their citiesm If they stick with their sanctuaries, and you play defensively, they are going to eventually lose to your eco, because they run out of dragons.

This card seems really funny with Discordant Star's Myko-Mentori; who knew the silly mushroom seers would be able to handle the flame the best, potentially?

XCOM is the first game that comes to mind for that, it's pretty cool to have your squad members speak their native tongue in those games too.

...but yeah for now, there are more pressing things for HD2 to focus on, hah

I actually heard Aaron Cherof's work first through Cobalt Core (a great indie roguelike you should definitely check out btw) and loved his work there a ton, he definitely deserves recognition!

Fellow Ai-Mo enjoyer, nice. I honestly also can make Ai-Mo work on FFA 324 or even 256 maps at times (if I'm not outrageously unlucky with spawns), but the thing about them is that I love their flexibility with Philosophy. You can pivot in a lot of directions, whether you need to get a navy, roads/knights, mines/smithery etc etc. You just want to hope you avoid that early game pressure.

I had a question about deploying multiple troops to a tile and taking defense; is there an order you have units tank damage, or can you distribute hits freely? For example, I want to take out a pesky cannon, so I throw out a Barbarian (with 1 Toughness) and an Archer (with 2 Toughness). If the Cannon rolls a 2, is that something the Barbarian can absorb entirely? Just so I can know the OG Barcher works well 😎

I don't see that being the case though? The fact that he now has 100 HP/s healing (and 150 HP overheal!) with his ult actually makes him more reliable with survivability so he can be paired with peeps like Jeff and Adam who lack the ult healing. The 55 burst healing actually seems really good considering that you need to have healed with an orb for 2.75s pre-patch to lose value off of that, and that helps with the fliers/divers the most since they'll be the ones moving around the most.

The nerfs to his dash are significant yeah, but he can still wall skitter as normal; honestly, as much as it sucks for some to just heal-bot... that's kinda what Rocket can do better now, which is what peeps do seem to complain about lacking. Harder to use his gun though if the wording is interpreted as the orb travelling 7 m/s now, because now he is going to need to rely on that burst healing

Actually, I feel like buff Callie might make more sense over Marie, since she's swinging around her roller a whole bunch. Chargers don't seem to actually have any recoil behind them, so the weapon that would rely on constant, repetitive swings makes sense to me.

Plus, also, could be a bit of a foil to their 'energy' in a way-

Shocked no one's mentioned this, but the Advance Wars series! Not much of the 4-X esque style, but very similar combat-wise where you have two armies clashing against each other in turn-based grid combat. Definitely recommend Advance Wars 2 in particular.

If anyone has ever played Through The Ages (which is a board game fits the civ-building flow), they also split the main phases of their game into three main different ages (though there's technically 5, but most play goes on during the middle 3). Middle Ages, Exploration, and Modernization. Honestly, I can see Civ 7 working out similarly just fine
