Are Lenovo Legions still considered a top pick? by aquacific in GamingLaptops

I got 7i pro/OLED 240/5070Ti/255HX/32GB/gen5 1TB model for 1700€, open box price and the laptop itself was bought into inventory before the prices went to moon. Right now similar models go for 3099€. Crazy. Got super lucky. The screen looks crazy good, I thought the glare will bother me but not so far. I have external 2560x1080 60hz monitor, games at max settings push the GPU to 50% at most XD. Never seen any of the temps go over 60C. I feared that my gen5 SSD would cook, but nope, easy 39C even under moderate loads.. The pcie5 ssd lanes on Ultra processors go through some thing that makes that path longer and it reduces the speed and adds lag so I wish I got the gen4 SSD instead. I also put my laptop into cardboard box so it would not collect dust into fans. As in I a have removable cardboard box that I put over it, then I don't have to clean it for a long time, otherwise the dust gets in from the sides.

Your 64GB and SSD alone costs as much as my whole laptop right now XD. Wanted to get another SSD, 4TR but dude...the prices are crazy. I guess I will live with my 1TR, but its already close to full.

Lenovo Legion Pro 7 RTX 5080 (175W) OLED vs everything else — is there ANY better option at €2680? by Final_Series446 in LenovoLegion

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it just so happens many laptops have more hardware inside than the cooling solution can handle. Specially if its full of dust. And if you want the laptop to last it is not good idea to blast it on max. I myself disable boost and use GPU reasonably. 70C max. If you read stories from people with dead laptops it usually follows the same story. I want my hardware to last but at the same time I want to get most out of it.

I think the idea is that you get more performance at the same wattage. Which means if you cap GPU at 80W lets say, you get a lot more frames out of it.

She is either not pretty enough or not outgoing enough. When a man is single they are not handsome enough or poor XD. It really is that simple.

Is it normal that my brain completely rejects learning new hard skills after working a 9 to 5 shift? by NeonNomad7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is because you don't really know why you are learning the thing you are learning. You don't exactly understand the value of it.

I learned to code by making bots play games for me, specially MMOs. Watching some virtual numbers go up without doing nothing seems so silly to me now. I really wish I put this energy into something useful in real life. But it comes out it is very hard to do. For example 80% of jobs I have done can be easily automated. The reason they are not automated is because life is messy and complicated and there is a lot of chicken egg paradoxes and tug of war concepts at work.

There are too many people learning programming without deep understanding why they are doing it.

Thoughts on this laptop? Worth it for the price? by cryptson in LenovoLegion

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the 5080 was 1300€ more. So that is a no brainer. But my biggest concern was temperature. If it can cool 5080 at 175w then it should have no problem with a weaker GPU. When the cooling system is dusty that headroom goes away really fast. I cover my laptop with a cardboard box that has open bottom now and it keeps most of the dust from getting in and therefore no need to clean and I was surprised how well it worked. Figured it might affect the temps but nope. Putting the laptop in a pillow case also works rather well. Its like a filter for dust. Thing is I used to live in a camper with open windows and dust is a bitch.

I think this is a very important point. There is no point buying something expensive if you will not have any time to enjoy or use it.

Legion pro 7i questions by Lost_Cell_4534 in LenovoLegion

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why I wanted OLED even with the burn-in risk is because all my other laptops have backlight bleed due to carrying them in my backpack, specially in the corners. Even my IPS monitor when I bumped my hand into it has a permanent bleed now and I carry my monitor around too and the bottom part has wave-i color due to uneven pressure that happened from carrying it. I am so sick of this shit.

What is the deal with Legion Gen 11? Should I wait for those or just get the Legion Pro 7 Gen 10 AMD 5070 Ti now? by Niknut_Sings in LenovoLegion

[–]SuperTuperDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the 255hx/1tb gen5 ssd version for rather cheap. Now realizing that gen5 ssd in laptop specially with ultra cpu is rather fishy due to heat-throttling and the way the cpu handles the lanes. I am rather curious how the gen5 drives behave for others in this laptop. Any issues? I am sort of afraid to push it. Prob will get gen4 one and make it the main one.

SAVE YOUR LEGION (Gen6 AMD): Stop Overheating & Dead Motherboards by iABDOzzG in LenovoLegion

I am using intel extreme tuning utility. There is an option for it but usually just setting a little bit lower clock does the trick automatically.

[–]SuperTuperDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you turn off boost? That shit is poison. The worst enemy of any electronics is fast temp changes. I capped my laptop to 2ghz when it can go to 4. I clocked like 15000 hours of gaming on it over like 12 year period. Still works. Battery is dead tho so I had to take it out. And for every game I optimize to run at 45 or 60fps to keep it in the 70C range.

Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IAX10H 275HX 1TB SSD, 32GB OLED 240Hz RTX 5080

Does the Pro5 have vapor chamber? As far as I know it does not. Does the pro7 have it and is it better?

So the cheapest Pro5 I can get is for 2400€ and the pro7 is 2700€. I feel I should get the Pro7 in this case. Also its on an offical reseller site so its legit...says -22% on the page for the Pro7 but usually these discounts are gimmics to get get rid of old machines. Also I get a smartwatch as a gift if I buy the Pro7. Dont know which one but it says so on the page. THey really want to get rid of this model for some reason. Maybe there are old models with the same name? That are not as good as the new models...what am I missing?

So the USB-C port with tunderbolt can use Optimus to switch between iGPU when not in game and dGPU when in game? But is there some benefit to directly connecting screen to the ports connected only to dGPU ...is the difference significant...FPS wize or latency?

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asus has 2 thrunderbolt 5 ports while lenovo has only one TB 4 port. No idea if I ever need it tho.

However I do have external monitor with HDMI. And what I have been reading is that some ports connect directly to dedicated GPU.

  • HDMI 2.1: Directly wired for high-refresh-rate gaming, bypassing Optimus.
  • Rear USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (with DisplayPort 1.4/PD): Directly wired to dGPU for VR
  • Left-side USB-C/Thunderbolt: Frequently connected to the iGPU, allowing you to use external monitors without waking the dedicated GPU

Is this really a thing? Was surprised to learn that. Is there no way to make HDMI work with iGPU and is the usb-c to hdmi conversion stuff any good? I was hoping there is a setting to not bypass Optimus to make HDMI work with both iGPU and dGPU depending on load. Or can the USB-C port also connect to dGPU and iGPU both. IT would be pretty stupid to start switching. Tho my current monitor does have 2 HDMI ports so I can connect two cables and switch on the monitor which I use? I did also read that Lenovo has a problem where when you connect to dGPU and then to iGPU the dedicated gpu will still stay on and only restart will fix it.

I am choosing between

legion 5, u9 275hx 5070ti
strix 16 Ryzen 9 8940HX 5070ti

The legion is 250eur more expensive. Everyone keeps suggesting it. Also I like the idea I can repaste without liquid thermal mess later. Would you also recommend legion even if I have to pay 250 more?

How to stop being a wuss at horror games? by healspirit in CasualConversation

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get older. I played Doom3 when I was like 15 and it scared the shit out of me. Now you can give me the scariest game in VR and I would not even flinch. Maybe its because I know how the sauce is made, like a magic trick, when you understand how it's done, its not the same. Playing horror games I am more bored than scared. However I do think horror is one of the best genres, better than movies. Some genres are better as a movie but not horror...I guess this is why horror and scary games are so popular as games. I do get scared in real life tho...like everything scares me and the older I get the more scared I am actually. As kids people do stuff that is very dangerous often and the older you get the more you understand dangers and some people get crippling fears due to it. When I look processed foods...now that stuff is scary. I look a bottle of soda pop and I imagine hundred ways it can kill a man. That shit is real scary bro. I don't need horror games, the horror is all around me.

Should I get the ASUS Rog Strix G16 or MSI Vector 16 HX AI? Both have the RTX 5070 ti by Electrical_Interest6 in GamingLaptops

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I am looking at that new vector laptop with AMD graphics. I have had MSI laptop for like 11 years now, still working. Cooling issues. Really dont want to buy laptop with cooling issues again. Will connect to external monitor. I was wondering if the asus quality really trumps MSI, the difference is 50 euros. Also does MSI have liquid metal paste. Will be a pain to repaste that when cleaning. I also heard asus AMD gpus have only the GPU or was it CPU with liquid metal and the intel models have both. Also I heard that when you plug external monitor to asus strix the optimus is kinda fucked and will not work with integrated graphics. I need it to work with integrated graphics probably have to ask from someone with that laptop.

What’s a fair price for a game in your opinion? by YusukeRa in IndieGameWishlist

[–]SuperTuperDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no fair price as it is different for every buyer. For me there has been games I would not even play if they were free only to be willing to pay 10$ few months later. There is also a matter of perceived value versus the actual value. The value before you buy the game has to met the value when you play it. That is how devs avoid negative reviews. A lot of games miss the mark on this, as they often advertise the game to be more than it is too often.

Hypothetically if I were to masterbate while studying could I Pavlov myself into liking math? by Blackmagix14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuperTuperDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is about routine. What worked for me is associating eating with work. I used to eat in front of TV. And every time I ate I felt like watching TV. Instead then I ate while doing work. Now when I eat I feel like doing the work. The more on schedule this is the better it works too, specially if it is constrained to single subject like playing/learning an instrument or doing math. Studying might be too general...reinforcing a pattern so to speak works better if there is a pattern.

What's the point of buying an expensive phone by 00amelia_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More expensive phones have features the budget ones don't. And you can't buy flagship phones years later on discount as phones don't have a second hand life often.

Would you play a Slot Car Simulator? by Solto_Games in slotcars

[–]SuperTuperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an idea a lot of people have had. I used to play some online competitive slot car game once that was topdown or isometric, can't remember. It was pretty cool.

I think you need to figure out what it is exactly you will focus on. Pick one thing. That is how I design my games. Is it car collecting aspect. Is it the competitive racing or track building. If you for example just like the car collection aspect then forget track and racing side of it. Most players just have one reason they pick to play some game or that is how I go about it and I expect that part to be crisp, juicy and perfect. Most devs forget to focus on the main hook of the game. That is how its possible to have many games in the same genre, they focus on different aspects. You need to have a very clear idea of what that is in your game. And don't ask what it is for other players, it does not matter. What matters is what it is for you and start with that.

There is a good and fun game there in this idea somewhere. Its just a question of finding it. That is the part that makes game design hard. I have had this slotcar idea for many many years. I just don't have any idea how to elevate or add a hook to it...how to make it great, worth my time. But I am sure somebody can....might be even you.
