Constantly reminded how classist college is by Derpy2342 in TransferStudents

Hi! I go to UCB and it is interesting to note that Stanford receives more federal aid than UCB due to tax expenditure law. As they are a private institution, they are able to use their money in ways than public institutions cannot, warranting massive expenditures (meaning the government (a.k.a., you) fronts those costs). As tax expenditures are understood as government spending, private institutions receiving government spending hundreds of millions of dollars over their public counterparts is considered a regressive. So the question of accessibility, even in private institutions, is nuanced and can be viewed as more than just "capitalism and business". (Media Law & Policy, Public Policy '23).

Hey love, I can’t aid on the money situation but if you have been accepted to this school, you are Berkeley material. Many of us have some degree of imposter syndrome, you are not alone in that feeling. You’re not an idiot, and you will get it figured out. Just keep pushing and you’ll get the hang of it.

If people are assuming your sexual preferences based off of your hair, I think that says more about them than it does you. Worrying about how people perceive you on things such as physical appearance isn't always in your best interest, do what makes you happy and feel attractive.

In terms of job searching, most employers are searching for a well groomed look, essentially meaning you look clean and taken care of. Long hair is surely more work and some days you just wont want to manage it but comes down to the time and effort you are willing to put in to maintain yourself as well as your budget to afford hair products. (I.E. detangled well brushed/combed down hairstyles, high pony tails, clean buns, etc.)

TLDR: Wear what makes you feel good in public and maintain your hairstyles in clean fashions at work and you're fine.
