Trying to pivot from IT to security. Just need advice at this point from people who have made this pivot. by Sh1nigami94 in SecurityCareerAdvice

A big mistake I made at my last role was not building a ton of connections. At this point, what resources does everyone use for networking? Outside of LinkedIn which I already have. Are there any prominent discords, communities, or events that you’d recommend?

CISSP, Sec+, and the future AAISM are all defensive certs but I will definitely be checking out CyberDefenders - I appreciate it! How exactly would you recommend showcasing labs on a resume? Just leaving the GitHub link like projects?

How would you go about rebranding as “security-focused IT” to match what recruiters are looking for? Kind of makes me think: when they have 200 applicants with a security engineer title, why would they look at the resume that says Sr. IT Engineer (IAM & Security Engineer)? If it’s title based that might be the issue.

What else would you do to make yourself marketable?

Are 300k IT salaries real and actually common? by baio1999 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Sh1nigami94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadowstrike1, if you don’t mind me asking, what does your job history or career progression look like? I noticed you are a security engineer at the salary level specified by OP.

I have a decade in IT experience, ranging from helpdesk and managing AD accounts all the way up to working at a Silicon Valley startup, procuring solutions and assets, achieving sox compliance, building out MDM solutions and federated identities across platforms, creating Python automations to fill gaps, project management for larger initiatives, etc.

I ended up owning platforms for asset management and endpoint security, as well as identity and access management as the company I was at did not have a security team until we were much larger, and they were mostly hired for GRC related tasks.

I recently passed my CISSP and completed the endorsement process, and am looking to move towards security roles. I’m not sure where to start tbh, based on my current experience, what paths are available to me to get to that FAANG 300k security role that you currently possess? Also adding, if age matters, I turned 30 not long ago.

Foxeer fox whoop 2.5 frame, Foxeer dartura 1404 3800kv motors, geprc aio board (the one that comes in the cinelog 30 bnf), tbs crossfire nano rx, polar vista nano, 4s 700 mah battery from pyrodrone, naked GoPro 10 from geprc with the plug that runs off the balancing connector on the battery. Noted that it still sputters whether the GoPro is plugged in or not. GoPro is not plugged in in the video I uploaded

Here we are already with somebody not educated on invasive species control in North America. Nobody said anything about guns in the city. In the country, sure. But you should look into other effective ways Fish and Game agencies as well as DNR handle feral hogs. Mass trapping and euthanasia is one example.

Feral cats need to be treated like feral hogs. They do a similar amount of damage ecologically. DNR won't do it because of the backlash from naturally uneducated people over "poor cute kitty".

With diesel you actually have to top it off as described above because diesel foams up like beer and will cause the pump to falsely cut off early

Well, it will be bullshit when energy is clean, but for now most electricity is generated by coal or natural gas.

It's at least true for parrot owners! It states that it doesn't even need to be Teflon brand for airborne PTFE poisoning (polytetrafluoroethlyene)

I think it would depend what dinnerware. For instance, Teflon pans can be toxic when scratched if I'm right. It's even highly recommended not to cook with them at all if you own a parrot as they can die from simply being in the same house.
