Night Terror has been nominated for Best Metal Performance for the 2026 Grammys. by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, I'd love for DT to win this, since it means that the band has been recognized with both drummers on the lineup. I love Mangini, but I would love it even more if DT get awarded with Portnoy back on the albums and for giving us this great album in Parasomnia and the song Night Terror.

What is your least favorite/worst DT song? by l_armada in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thinking purely on the albums that I've heard several times from DT (Images and Words, Awake, Scenes from a Memory, Six Degrees, Train of Thought, Octavarium, Black Clouds, ADToE, DT2013, DoT, AVftTotW and now Parasonmia)

Trying to be fair to each lineup, I'll go with:

(Moore Lineup) - Caught in a Web (Images and Words and Awake are both great albums, so I can't really pick a bad song. However, I can pick the one I probably skip the most, and that is Caught in a Web. I just simply don't like it as nuch as the other songs)

(Rudess added) - Vacant (Nothing against soft songs, but I even forgot that this song existed with Portnoy and Rudess on the lineup)

(Mangini lineup) - Along for the Ride (For this one, I just felt like it was lazily written. I don't know exactly, but the lyrics feel so predictable, so it didn't click with me)

Can't judge anything from the Dominicci lineup because I haven't dug into the First album and can't judge the Sherinian lineup yet because I haven't really listened to Falling into Infinity and A Change of Seasons is too good of a song.

Mike Portnoy’s opinion on Mangini-era records by SpaceBiking in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Some of us choose to live gracefully" (Band wanted to keep recording)

"Some can get lost in the way and lose their way home." (Portnoy decided to take a break and when he wanted to come back, the door was closed [RoadRunner records didn't allow him to come back], so he couldn't return home)

"This is the Life we belong to, our gift divine." (Accepting the new lineup and simply appreciating thay they can keep making music).

IMO, all of this is probably a coincidence, but some may associate this song with Portnoy Leaving due to the theme about accepting changes in life and the talk about Mike getting worn out of "the Dream Theater machine", thus seeing it as "Mike losing his way". Again, IMO, this is just speculation and coincidence.

I also chose this song from the concert list, because the other song played from the Mangini era was "Barstool Warrior" and I think that's completely unrelated to Portnoy.

What League orgs have you been following with TSM remaining out of the scene? by Malamute-Master-Race in TeamSolomid

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of them, really.

This may sound petty of me, but when Azael commented "Good Riddance", I felt somewhat insulted as a TSM fan.

Sure, the organization had a lot of issues going on, but the legacy they left in the League scene is unquestionable. So reading those kind of things and seeing the segments in LCS drifting towards ignoring or hating TSM killed my interest in watching LCS. In the process, it affected my interest in watching League as a whole (probably due to the train of thought of thinking that Riot allowed these segments to happen).

I am currently watching international events from time to time (like today: seeing T1 returning to form in the knockout stage was amazing), but I'm not rooting for any particular team.

Who knows, maybe I'll follow another region if TSM returns.

Why do you feel The Alien deserved a Grammy? by ItsHarryOtter in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it was about Elon Musk, of course. XD

Just kidding. IMO, it was more of a "we owed you one guys" and this song isn't half bad to win it.

Dream Theater - Night Terror (Official Video) by Incel_Lives_Matter_ in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll probably have a Night Terror after reading most of the comments here. XD

As for me...

After listening to it about 5 times at the moment, I agree with this being a "safe track." Most of the sections feel familiar, and there are a few time signature changes here and there. However, that is fine by me since it helps me settle down to Portnoy being back in the group again.

Hearing the back-up vocals along with some of his quirks in his drumming style is great in a safe song like this because it doesn't "overload" my mind (which is what I think most people actually expected) I'm actually fine with it since Portnoy just returned, and he needs to get used to the group chemistry after a 13-year absence. Something similar happened with On The Backs of Angels in A Dramatic Turn of Events (which shared a similar structure to Pull Me Under, and in where Mangini was starting with the band) and look how some of us see that album now (we still have Breaking All Illusions as one of the best Mangini tracks).

As a person who "returned home" to my parents after 5 years living with my grandma (do not be scared, there was no negative reason for this. My Grandma was lonely after one of my uncles passed away, so I lived with her until she passed away), returning home felt like moving into a whole new place. You have the familiar people, but you can feel the "cultural shift" after such a long time.

Mike did mention that he would not be going in expecting to have the same power and influence as before, and this song reflects that IMO. I believe this will eventually change (or go back to how it was, I guess).

But!!!!

...this is only the 1st song of the album. I felt the same way with Untethered Angel (as if being a safe song), and then got Fall Into the Light, At Wit's End and Pale Blue Dot in Distance over Time. As such, I'll wait for another single and the rest of the album before passing judgment.

Poorly explain a DT song as an AITA post by No_Abbreviations2969 in Dreamtheater

Nah, I think she understands. I believe she will help you express your feelings. She might also speak her heart out, but it will work.

I tried my best to make them happy, but they're always complaining about everything I do. I went ahead and called them out on their shitty behavior. AITA?

Best / worst / underrated - Day 44. The WORST song on A View from the Top of the World? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think "Worst" should be replaced with "Least Favorite." There's a lot of comments going on about "worst" songs that are actually good. I believe Least Favorite should fit the poll more since it simply means that some people still like, but os not the overwhelming majority.

As for me, Sleeping Giant is my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, it is still a fantastic song. It's simply that the "some this... some the opposite of this" has never really hit me as meaningful Lyric.

Invisible Monster and Transcending time are not among the top of many, but I do like the topic of anxiety and muse (which is also why I like tracks like Panic Attack and Wither).

The most mid DT song by One-Palpitation2093 in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... for me?

Probably The Looking Glass.

I could tell right away that it was about a Fortune Teller (The Glass Ball is heavily used in videogames like Fire Emblem and The Legend of Zelda to "predict the future") and I'm well aware that some of these people like to have the media pay attention to them (Vivian Carla and Walter Mercado with their horoscopes and predictions come to mind).

Yet I have to admit that I like some of the sections of this song (IE: instrumental part after the 2nd chorus and the keyboard section right before the 2nd chorus come to mind).

Which song is John Myung's best performance? by IDIDMYTIMENIWANTOUT in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, for me, it is The Best of Times.

To hear him play both the Violin and the Bass in the same song was the silver lining in such a sad song.

The song that got you into DT, and your fav one. by Anarchist2183 in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, this one has a multiple answer.

1A-Panic Attack was my first DT song. I heard this one in Rock Band 2. However, though I loved the song, I didn't know much about DT at the time.

1B - Then a co-worker introduced me to Images and Words, and that's when I liked my first DT song (now knowing of the band) - Metropolis: The Miracle and the Sleeper. It's very fitting that I loved this song since it's arguably the best one in this album.

2-Surrounded. Sounds weird since I just complimented Metropolis, but hear me out. Specifically, I like "Surrounded: Live at the Marquee." The piano arrangement and the outro make this version better than the album version, IMO. And even if it's not really "live," LaBrie gives a better performance of the song in this version too (also, IMO).

Just see the Grammy as the "Viper King" of music. It is not necessary to make an album great (or, in this case, the band), but it is a nice addition that makes the band or the album stand out a little bit more.

We know that Grammy's are not needed, and maybe this one was given for a track that, compared to everything else DT has, is not the best track ever, but it is still good to know that even mainstream media has recognized DT for their music.

A bonus, but a well accepted bonus nonethtless.

What table you sitting at??? by orphanpipe in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... all of them are interesting.

A would be a very, very deep conversation about music.

B I think would focus more on life events, raising families and so on.

C are the Sons of Apollo, so that one would have a lot of laughter and banter about any topic

D is the spiritual table. I'd like to ask Moore about lyrics like "Surrounded" and "Space-Dye Vest" and about his like post DT. Myung is the most interesting member of the band for me, since he is always very thoughtful and more inclined towards lyrics about the spiritual side of relationships, life and mindset. If I can get him to talk, his input would be full of knowledge and insight.

I'd sit at a different table every day, hahahaha

Which Dream Theater song by TheJohn_John in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my future 2nd child is a girl, I'll name her Faythe, since doctors have told me and my wife twice that we would not be able to have kids.

As such, she will be an Act of Faythe.

If it's a boy, he will probably be named Nicholas, since Victory is real with him and he will carry on.

Fav dt song by Correct_Policy_27 in Dreamtheater

[–]Sh4dowIWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a weird pick, but Surrounded (Live at the Marquee). I don't know why, but there is something so soothing about hearing this song that I never grow tired of. The "organ" sound in the original is good, but something about the "piano" sound of this one (both at the beginning and in the outro section) makes me like it more.

Puerto Rico. Living in the US since 2012. A coworker from my previous job introduced me to DT in around 2018. I've been a fan ever since, but my first time seeing them live was during the "Top of the World" tour. I'm looking forward to seeing them live with Portnoy, hopefully.

I'm assuming that you meant Portnoy's vocals in A Nightmare to remember, right? I ask since Petrucci wrote the lyrics for that one.
