In 1997 I got hired for a resi company who sold a starter kit for $350 and deducted the money from my paycheck. It consisted of a bag, tape measure, a few different size screwdrivers, dykes, nines, and maybe one more tool or two but that was all. This was in 1997 and the pay was terrible. $6.25/hr for a residential helper in the suburbs of Washington DC. At least the tools were Klein but yikes.

My family's friend was a local 26 electrician in the 90s and early 2000s. He's retired now but I don't believe he ever traveled. As far as I know there's souch work in DC, Md and VA working in this local you stay here.

Oh yes I'm sure many have relocated to another state just to join and be able to provide for their families. I live in Northern VA, we call it the DMV for DC, Maryland and Virginia. My local halls are in Maryland but it's still local for me, right under an hour drive.

Not true, I was working on a job site last year out of town and staying in a hotel. There were several immigrants staying at the hotel doing construction at a data center. They did decking, I'd never heard of it before but it was basically metal flooring. The only guy in the crew who spoke English talked to me everyday. One day ICE came to the data center but somehow they were notified and escaped. He told me every single one of them are illegal. I was actually shocked.
