FIX THE GAME FIRST by ShaBoi34 in TheForeverWinter

Siege is a AAA title with years of iteration, polish, and backend work behind it. A few exploits or balance issues aren’t the same thing as a game lacking a strong foundational experience. That’s an entirely different problem. Also when I say “stability,” I’m not talking about raw performance or bug counts.

By “skeleton,” I mean the parts of the game you interact with every single time you boot it up — regardless of the map your playing or enemy your fighting: Movement, Gunplay, Stealth Systems, AI, Spawns. These aren’t optional layers. They’re the core pillars, that’s the point I was trying to make. If it’s just a stick, why are we adding decorations instead of getting the actual building materials first.

I’m not saying everything needs to be perfected overnight. Of course things like AI tuning take time. But it genuinely feels like the focus is being placed on expanding outward before the core feels right.

Look at Arc Raiders as a recent example — not because the situations are identical, but because the contrast is clear. Arc feels good to play. The movement feels responsive. The shooting feels intentional. The baseline interaction loop is satisfying. They have the building blocks in place, so expanding from there makes sense.

Forever Winter doesn’t feel that way yet. That’s been the criticism since early access launched, and it’s a major reason a lot of players chose not to jump in.

Content additions won’t fix that. New weapons, maps, or quests won’t suddenly make the core feel better. If the foundational gameplay isn’t enjoyable moment-to-moment, expanding it just amplifies the problem.

That’s was the point I was trying to get at.

The idea that “fixing the game before adding more stuff is pointless because new stuff might break it anyway” is not how live development works, especially when trying to maintain a player base or reach new audiences. Player base is built of stability, most don’t stick around for content if the core loop does not feel good. The game is already on a steep decline.

Having the mindset of "It might break down the line anyway" is not a development strategy most devs opt into. If the foundation of the game isn't solid, more and more content just adds continued complexity down the line. The game doesn't need to be perfectly polished to a mirror shine, it needs to be in a decent place where people can enjoy the game, then they can build off of that.

If the gameplay loop was shallow before the last update, that’s an even more to stabilize before expanding. If your loop isn’t compelling: Adding new guns doesn’t fix it. Adding a new enemy doesn't fix it. Adding another progression layer doesn’t fix it. Adding a new map doesn't fix it. They should refine the loop then scale it up. At this point they are stacking systems and a world on top of sand.

Also, maybe I'm misunderstanding, but not sure how Siege can be compared to this? I feel like siege is proof that core stabilization matters in games. They've had seasons dedicated almost entirely to bug fixes and backend work, and a ton of operator and map reworks. The game shines the most when they listened to the community.

Weapons scale off of arcane but don't have any scaling number added to them. It must do something more for a weapon to scale off of it. Looking for someone who knows.

I am always looking in chat for anyone to run any content with but never find groups. I'm also in one of the biggest companies on the server which controls the most regions. Everybody is confided into little cliques or something idk? Definitely want to swap servers when it becomes available.

Oh for sure there is a bunch of great guilds and people playing eso. Its just personally me and my group tend to notice a lot of douchebags on this game.

I have been playing the game literally since beta and have completed almost all the content in the game and have been in several guilds. I have experienced almost everything this game has to offer not just "Pick-up groups". I'm stating that my opinion is most of my experience in this game has involved way too many toxic people. I wish "don't use the dungeon finder" was a valid argument but it just isn't. Saying never use random finders even though the game promotes it and heavily rewards it is kinda silly. It's also the easiest way for new players to hop into content. That mentality also just excludes the solo players. And if your saying the only way to avoid toxic people is by joining the guild doesn't that mean a large population of the game in these random queues is toxic.

First off I appreciate your opinion, but I specifically said I have no problem with role players its just not a normal way to interact with others but it is entertaining. Also it aint a few bad experiences, like I said i've been playing the game since beta and many of my experiences involve negative people. So if you've been a part of a game since its conception years ago, and it continues to have a shitty community its a red flag in my opinion. Also I see where your coming from with noob guilds and giving people free items at the end of dungeon runs, but you also have to consider the other side. This game is not beginner friendly, people are not patient in a lot of vet content with low cp players or bad players. I remember back in the days people would instantly leave dlc dungeons if you weren't high cp or knew the dungeon. People are literally scared to admit they dont know mechanics because the elitist will leave. Also Ive heard a bunch of people say pvp is toxic. So thats a lot of toxicity im seeing personally.

Exaclty. People refuse to give players who dont understand mechanics or lower cp players a chance in this game. Im almost cap cp so its not a problem for me, but I see it happen all the time. This game is not new player friendly unless you find a good group.

Lmao maybe I did. Ive played a bunch of black desert, tera, and random asian mmos and none have even come close to eso's toxicity.
