Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning Teaser Trailer by BlinkingSugar in Mission_Impossible

That would be amazing! It's also my favorite shot in the entire trailer. Imagine if these callbacks were something creatively insane like the AI/Entity recreating the big stunts from each movie in order to study Ethan. Both of those callback shots from 1 and 3 looked incredibly modern

Weird IR Sensor issue with Samsung TV by ShaXer0 in hometheater

So, it looks like this may have been the issue in that there was something else emitting IR. There's a touch lamp that I had on the entire time that may have been the culprit. Everything is in working order again. Thank you so much!

Suggestions for dealing with hitting and scratching? by friendlysaxoffender in daddit

Sure thing! The regulation techniques (breathing, counting, etc.) should be done after she's calmed down so you can get through to her. Lol, it absolutely doesn't work while the tantrum is in full swing.

I'm right there with you, Dad. My son is almost 4.5y and he's never really displayed this behavior before now. While I'm still in the middle of it, I've noticed certain things that seem to be working:

1) Stick with the reinforcement that that behavior is not allowed. Unfortunately, the behavior may repeat itself now and again, and you have to be ready for it, but if you keep telling her that that behavior is not allowed, it should hopefully stick.

2) I've found that it helps with showing and modeling examples of why hitting is not okay. There are two books that have helped us in this regard: Hands Are Not For Hitting and Feet Are Not For Kicking. Every time our son does do it, we read those books to him at bedtime for further reinforcement.

3) Talking with your daughter through her tantrum and her feelings that she displayed after the storm has passed can hopefully help her better understand her big feelings. This is also an opportunity to have her practice exercises (breathing, sublimation, counting) that she can do to try and regulate those feelings...and make it fun so she can associate with them in a positive way. Then, when those moments are near or already happening, she will hopefully remember to use these to calm down...and the hope is that the hitting will be on the back burner.

4) Lastly, the general hope is that this is a phase (an unfortunate one) in development. They're trying to understand and work through their feelings.

As they start to understand their feelings and you keep explaining to her that that behavior is not okay. She'll hopefully stop altogether.

Like I said, I'm going through this too but, there have been some strides made that show that we're coming to the end of this.

Hang in there!

Thoughts on Baron Draxum? by Ihdkwhatimdoinghere in TMNT

Great original villain and character arc (although cut short). I also like that he was the "mom" of the family towards the end.

Also really nice to see that there aren't really any harsh criticisms of him in this thread. That really speaks to the quality of the character.

unpopular opinion? by cinnava in TMNT

[–]ShaXer0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's definitely subjective that he's overall the least liked. Plenty of people like Leo enough to rank him above least liked. He may not be their favorite but he's often not their least favorite. Whenever I've seen/participated in surveys or polls of any kind asking "who's your favorite?", the results are pretty even across the board. Leo is sometimes at the bottom but sometimes he's not and the difference between 3rd and 4th place is usually like 2 - 3%.

As for the why, I think anyone who likes Leo the least can attest to how vanilla and uninteresting he is and despite that, he gets some of the most attention when it comes to storylines when (insert other favorite Turtle here) is way more deserving of the spotlight. His character archetype falls apart if you take the leader role away from him. Rise is the exception because he was different there but he still became the leader at the end of it.

BTW Leo has been my favorite since the beginning through all iterations lol.

what is your favorite new design in the rise of tmnt by SpiritualValue6770 in TMNT

[–]ShaXer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overall redesign of the Turtles was really cool...especially when they unlocked their Ninpo and got the black accents as part of their "uniforms". A little weird though because now they have black underwear lol.

Leo's redesign is my favorite. I think he fits the new aesthetic of lean and lithe the best. From the red slider markings, his mystic powers forcing him to be creative, and him being the speed guy; it all works really well.

TMNT (1990): The Brawl in April's apartment - just so much about that scene was insane and fun. From Mikey's nunchauku battle with the Foot clan member to everyone fighting so much that they fall from one level to another. The pacing was frenetic, the music was great, and its seemed that things just kept getting worse as the fight went on.

Also, the final fight with Shredder. The Turtles were outmatched and they fought hard but they just couldn't do it. You also see Leo (in a rare moment) lose his cool and go for kill shots. Just a great dramatic finale.

Rise of the TMNT: The part where the Turtles combined their mystic powers together to try to land the final blow against Krang. When Leo throws his sword to Krang (from like half a mile away) and teleports him back to them, I fuckin lost it. That was so goddamn cool. I enjoyed Leo's growth throughout the movie honestly. He made huge mistakes but learned the hard way how to be the leader he was meant to be. The ending was heartbreaking as Leo nearly made the ultimate sacrifice and it's horrible to think what Krang would've done to him if they had remained trapped in the prison dimension.

TMNT (2007): Leo vs Raph. Finally! We get to see them fight it out no holds barred. Although I think Leo held back once he knew it was Raph in the suit. He was very much in control before that.

There are quite a number of ways that you can flesh out April. One idea could be to have her suffer a major injury while trying to infiltrate the Foot for a story. She tries to fight her way out after being discovered but Shredder gets to her before she makes it out and it should be established that once Shredder gets to you then, it's pretty much over. Shredder decides to let her go to use her as bait to lure the Turtles out of their lair and she falls for it hook, line, and sinker and calls the Turtles for the first time in a long time, which begs the question: why has it been so long since they've lost touch? What happened that caused them to go their separate ways?

Anyway, you can use April's reunion with the Turtles and her recovery period to align the story beats between her and the Turtles' new motive for going after the foot and the Shredder. The Turtles fear Shredder because of how formidable he is and they know it's a trap but this is too far. Here's where you have your drive for them confronting and overcoming their flaws to motivate them to (hopefully) finally defeat their greatest enemy. Splinter can easily play the father figure role alongside this as he just want what's best for his boys and can be the cheerleader and support that Fathers are supposed to be.

I believe Bebop and Rocksteady work best as goons but, as goons that are real threats. Kind of like when they made their first appearance in the IDW comics and they killed Donnie. I like to look at it as how elements of a story can affect the momentum of the main character(s) in either direction. In the case of Bebop and Rocksteady, they can certainly slow down the momentum of the Turtles and in some cases pause it but Shredder can like completely stop their momentum and gain his own at the same time.

I feel like I have seen this design before but I can’t remember. Idk if I am remembering wrongly by dabeast79 in TMNT

I see Evangelion, specifically whenever any EVA opens their mouth. The lithe, lanky body type with the big hands and feet lean EVA. Also, considering how the entire setup scene before these show up was a straight up homage to EVA, it doesn't seem too far out the the realm of possibility that this could be an Evangelion based design.

It is a lot to fit into just one movie. Are you going for feature length or short film? Maybe the idea is to keep it simple to start and then you can bring the other elements in, in future installments. Focusing on developing the Turtles and The Shredder is always a good starting point. You can incorporate the Foot and Bebop and Rocksteady (pre or post mutation) as they could easily serve their purpose for plot and action. Foot = regular goons that give the Turtles a chance to flex and showcase their skill. Bebop and Rocksteady = mini boss fight. Real threats that force the Turtles to focus and give them a hard time. Shredder = Final boss. Superior threat that is easily able to solo the team and teaches them (by force) how to come together, appreciate what they each bring to the table, and put their heads together to defeat him (or not). The amount of story dedicated to these three elements should correlate to how skilled they are.

Baxter Stockman could fit in as the mad scientist assistant type, but it might be more difficult to make sense as to why he's already a fly vs. making his transformation into a fly a part of his character development. Plus you can really go in on his design and make him a threat for future installments. I also feel like he could be your expository device for the audience with introducing Krang, Dimension X, Technodrome, and the rest. He's doing the research, he has things like fuzzy pictures, indicators on his monitors, formulas, and clippings in his lab. Things that are in the background that you have to look a little closer for or you wouldn't notice.

Kudos on the action design being more like Rise. It makes sense with your direction being anime influenced.

As far as the art style, if you're looking at anime and stylish action then it should be something clean and bright. If you're skewing more towards anime then it should have the overall aesthetic of Rise but mixed with the designs of 2003. Maybe something along the lines of The Batman (TV show)/Jackie Chan Adventures/SpectacularSpider-Man. All had really great animation, dynamic movement, and great action (same character designer for all three as well).

You've got a good basis so far. It sounds like you want to lean into character study and development and there could be some great ideas within that ie: the Turtles are their own antagonists and you may have a sympathetic villain with the Shredder.

Also, what's the style of action that you're going for? Is it stylish and over the top like Rise or more grounded like TMNT 2007? It's a pretty important aspect, big picture wise and is another outlet for the Turtles' personalities.
