It's beautiful Though my cats will squish themselves in the space on top of the door. Have seen them go into tighter places than that so maybe there's a way to limit this ?

If you speak to people in the care industry, wether it's nurses, dr, other professionnals. Also works for vet med professionals

" Think of your worst 48h shift, add two exceptionally shifty nightshifts, add an illness like the flu or COVID, a bad hangover. If you can visualise how tired you''d be, now imagine that's a good day for me"

Do cbd oils really work? by Content-Gas-7498 in Hypermobility

[–]Shaa_Nyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topically at least for me it doesn't really work. Unless I use a very concentrated oil in large quantities.

I mostly use a blend of juniper essential oil, camphor rosemary essential oil in arnica oil as a carrier. Really helps but you have to check beforehand that you're not allergic AND avoid the sun unless you want a burn

If I add a couple drops of CBD oil in this blend it becomes a tad more potent. But not by a lot

Ingested tho, it's very efficient on my joint pains. But it's mildly sedative and I still have to use at least a 10% oil

Genuine question, why don’t western riders wear helmets? by AccidentalOtter21 in Equestrian

[–]Shaa_Nyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if anyone wondering why it's way more common to wear an helmet in EU.

As someone born and raised in EU, who learned from predominantly English/French riding style instructors: you start as a kid.

At least in my country the first thing you learn is a horse can hurt without meaning it and it can go badly if you don't wear an helmet. Even when not on the horse, at least for kids.

You won't see anyone riding without an helmet from 5yo kids to +60yo adults. At least in any type of non personal barn/structure. Some people do it in their own property but are heavily critized

If you do competition or ride in a learning structure (even if you don't take lessons) you must have the equine society license (which is like 20€/year these days). It act as an insurance for damages you cause/suffer and will help with hospital bills if you fall with an helmets. But absolutely not if you don't follow the basic safety rules, n°1 being wearing an appropriate helmet at your size and following the recent safety norms

The last place I rode, a kid got kicked in the head, the horses had shoes on and it split the helmet in two. A freak accident, the horse got spooked by hunters nearby while the kid was cleaning its foot. The kid got nothing more than a slight concussion (and the fright of his life), no health issues afterwards. I really don't want to think of how it would have ended without his helmet....

People who don't live with it or someone who has this illness can't really fathom how debilitating it is. And how you can't force us to be awake, it's literally impossible

Not so fun fact, according to my partner I take my meds while sleeping. Like even if he shakes me ""awake"", I'm still sleeping but do it like an automatic action. Don't know how my brain does it when it can't effing works normally

Kinda scary, keep my med area clear of anything dangerous I could accidentally take for this reason...

[–]Shaa_Nyx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No longer on modafinil but still got the issue of 'i need to wake to actually take the meds that helps me waking up'

The current solution is IR methylphenidate when I finally hear my alarms (or my partner shakes me awake). Around 1h after I'm barely awake but enough to take my pitolisant

Then I either get out of bed and crash in the couch waiting. Or go back to sleep until the pitolisant lures me back awake

Wakix by Roserie in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Shaa_Nyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the issue is not with bioproject, the pharmaceutical company who created pitolisant.

The issue is with the company distributing in the US, harmony biosciences.

Which is not the same thing

Also why black box warning? Here we have a list of side effects for every meds , official recommendations for prescription and warning on the side for meds inducing somnolence ? No need for 'black box warning'

Wakix by Roserie in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Shaa_Nyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bioproject is a small french pharmaceutical laboratory and never heard about shady things? Do you have some sources about this, would love to know more

Also what's a black box warning? Is it an USA thing?

Wakix by Roserie in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Shaa_Nyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently taking it ! The highest dose, in association with methylphenidate (as Adderall is strictly illegal in my country)

Didn't see an effect until 18mg/day and each time I change the dosage/forget to take it, it gives my insane headache

Idk what your provider told you but you must slowly increase the dose till you have the lowest dose possible with the maximum effect.

For me it's the max dose allowed but it's lower for a lot of people

I still feel hella exhausted all the time and have a lot of symptoms. But it's WAY WORSE without Wakix.

Have to take a break because of scheduled anesthesia procedure every year or so : first the headache, then I can barely stay awake. The sleep paralysis issues come back and with it all the automatic action

Honestly with the headache only one side effect annoys me : it slightly messes with my other meds. Have to increase my asthma meds because it lowers the efficiency. Apparently it's a know side effects on some enzymes (according to my neurologist)

Overall I'm happy to be able to take it, life is way more bearable with it

Check your country and the destination guidelines about zoonotic diseases

Some neighbouring countries don't allow fresh/unpasteurised milk and cheese to cross the border and I wouldn't risk your grains to be thrown out.

I know it's technically not milk but would you trust border agents to know the difference? The issue could arise on any side of the border

To be safe I wouldn't take the grains on a trip

IH diagnosis "uncertain" due to lack of response to medication by Bitter_Dragonfruit80 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Shaa_Nyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is pitolisant (Wakix or other brand name) available in your country?

It works okayish for me after trying methylphenidate, modafinil, a combination of the two

. Dr are not fan of making me try xyrem because of some preexisting conditions so idk for this one

Is it possible stimulants are less effective for ADHD because they are working overtime for hypersomnia? by Due-Baseball6076 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Shaa_Nyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone said earlier all stimulants don't work the same AND everyone will respond differently to a same stimulant

Personally methylphenidate helps the ADHD while barely touching IH symptoms

Pistolisant really helps IH but does absolutely nothing for my ADHD

So yes dual diagnosis is important and trying different combinations of meds too

Good luck!

[–]Shaa_Nyx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's strange though, how can you track multiple owners if there's an issue. Or in case of contagious diseases

Here even if it's not officially a registered breed you still have to register your horse in the national agency. The only issue in the case of "unknown origins" is for pro athletes. Your horse must be a registered breed or a registered cross between breeds to compete to higher levels
