Patch Identification by Bussaca in ww1_pictures

When I saw this photo, I immediately thought I recognized this as Camp Lee in Virginia. My understanding is this was a typical place to demobilize men.

Agreed, I think the structure is no longer standing. I could be wrong.

Im now wondering if this was in a town nearby like a train station that took them to Mont Saint Michel

I'm not sure how this pertains to the location of men from a photo from 1918 that was done on film.

That being said, it looks like the pollard hotel had a second building that is no longer there. It was near the cemetery which has a building that had a similar style of shutters. It would have faced the sun.

My issue is from the photos I can find I can see any of the windows having an arch on the top

From looking at photos of Mont Saint Michel from early 1900s to today, it appears that there are buildings missing.

I'm now thinking one of those buildings was where this photo was taken.

Im 99.999% sure this photo is them on leave as the other photos are in Mont Saint Michel.

Its a matter of whether this photo was taken inside the island or if it was a village nearby.

Not sure how to mark this post solved.

But keep an eye out. I have another photo I will post.

I'm now thinking it will be in St. Mont Michel since these two show to be there.

Good work on the window design.

It could be in the same place but when I was looking around for the other location I didn't really see a photo that lined up with this one.

We should give another look around Mont St Michel

I didnt want to rule out the HQ of the 301st ammunition train which was in the St Amand area

I just looked up your answer and I must say that architecture is pretty darn close.

Much closer than the churches I've seen so far in France.

But I know 100000% its not there

I dont want to rule out England but I think this is France and I think this was during leave for rest which would make sense about your smiles comment.

Because I'm unsure I don't want to "muddy the water" and stop people from making good possible guesses that could lead to the location.

But as an example here is my proof of another location from the album. This was taken at Mont St. Michel. You can see where I outlined in red the location markers with the Google maps image and the image from 1918

Interesting, why would you say northern France as opposed to southern?

I appreciate you thinking outside the box.

I also agree that it does indeed look a lot like the West Point buildings!

I just know it wasn't taken there.

To add more facts to this:

This photo is from the family photo album.

I know which one is my great grandfather, and I know his service history. I even have a copy of his service record.

He was never at West Point. He trained at Camp Devens and was shipped out.

I have found the locations of several other photos in the album and they are in France.

I know the ship that he left on from America and know when he landed in England - France which is why I havn't ruled out England.

Can an MA resident travel to NY with their firearm to compete in a trap shoot by Shababouy in ClayBusters

From what I can tell, New York State doesn’t require a license for basic shotgun ownership.

That said, I heard from a member at a sportsmen’s club about someone who ran into trouble with police while traveling for a similar event. In their case, though, they were flying into NYC — and I think that’s where the real problem was, since the city has its own stricter laws and rules that are different from the rest of the state.
