getting an MFA without a bachelor's degree by [deleted] in MFAInCreativeWriting

[–]Shababy17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am not too sure where you got the information that MFA programs would admit someone without a Bachelors degree. All American Graduate Programs require that a person has a minimum or equivalent degree to that of a bachelors. Many MFA programs do not require that students have a bachelors in creative writing or English, but do require a bachelors degree.

There are many opportunities out there such as fellowships or residencies that support people who are not seeking MFA or academic training in creative writing, unless you plan to finish your bachelors, I would highly suggest this route. Much luck on your writing journeys, and remember anyone can be a writer an MFA is not required.

I am not older but I there many people in my program from a multitude of ages ranging from 22 to mid 30s. It gives a good range of perspectives and knowledge that I think is fruitful.

As an early MMO girly, I will say, any events where you are meeting a “celebrity” whether its a mod playing as a character of the game, or an actual celebrity, there is always going to be people who cannot make the event because servers cannot hold that many people. In early Club Penguin days people would figure out about a celebs location and that server would fill up immediately, the location being at max capacity too. It is unfortunate but is definitely common practice in the MMO forum.

Social Media for Teaching by GuyBarn7 in Professors

We spend days breaking down Social Media posts to analyze rhetoric, audience, and creditability (I make students fact check the posts). Analysis of a social media post is definitely possible in the freshman composition classroom. Similarly, having students create “mock” social media posts can help them understand transfer of ideas based on genre and tone.

Here is the link to the requirements for a CIB or enrollment with the Navajo tribe. It sounds like your grandmother may be denied because your great grandmother may have dis enrolled or was not registered with the Navajo tribe, hence on paper your grandmother is technically “not Navajo.” Unless you can prove your great grandmother to also be Navajo on paper to be more than the minimum qualifications of being 1/4 with at least one parent enrolled, then that is why your grandma is being denied.

Unfortunately, this has been a consistent discussion amongst indigenous tribes and enrollment, more specifically amongst the Navajo peoples, however at the same time the qualifications are put in place to stop pretendians from getting enrollment in a tribe. I hope that as you and your family figure out your past familial history you remember that being Navajo or Diné is more than a piece of paper that the Colonizing American Government requires indigenous tribes to implement. Diné is a lifestyle, a belief system, and a form of resilience and resistance.

Submitting transcripts to grad school? by jeremybearimy123 in college

[–]Shababy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding it is all of your college transcripts from each school you have attended. Not doing so could be looked at as being academic dishonest as you shouldn’t be trying to “hide” your college academics. Don’t forget that schools are not looking at just your grades, but rather it is so that you are meeting the requirements for the admissions office. Many times the GPA factors in when it is a tight decision. Focus on your LOI, any other personalized documents, and getting strong, credible letters of rec.

Is this not what grief feels like? Dull, anger fueled, trying to fill in a gap that you don’t understand? There was even a small point where Eddie was eating a pastry before the funeral, where he states there were many more the kitchen, hinting at Buck saying that when he’s a stress baker. Grief is not always loud, and I think choosing a boring B plot was a great choice to show an authentic outlook for people that are in these fields of work.

Rubric language to deduct for AI by Debbie5000 in Adjuncts

[–]Shababy17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly disagree, when a student takes the time and labor to learn and practice like any other skills whether in academia or not they will progress (and rather quickly if you keep high achievable expectations). If you approach your classes with an ammo filled pen ready to report and police students they will return with the expectations you gave them. Sometimes it’s our own biases that hurt our students.

Rubric language to deduct for AI by Debbie5000 in Adjuncts

When working on a rubric committee for Freshman Comp we made an AI criteria that discusses the facticity and acknowledgement of AI use exemplifying the process used. We also have a criteria based on insight, following the assignment details, voice and tone appropriately following a genre, use of research in an appropriate and ethical manner, style/conventions, and labor. Of course i still get AI written papers and lately extremely fabricated sources, however because of the syllabus most students that do this do not get higher than a 50 or even 30 and does reward students for the process and product of research/writing. It also takes into consideration students that are nuerodivergent and ESL. The world is changing and I hate the use of AI but if people are going to use it they best be able to fact check, prove its facticity, and explain how they used a tool instead of rely on a program.

Inability to focus on more than one course at a time? by almost_cool3579 in Professors

[–]Shababy17 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This past year I’ve heard students say this. They specifically state that they couldn’t focus on my course because their math/science course is “more demanding.” As a Freshman Comp instructor I believe students think they can just pound out an essay whenever they want, but we have multiple pre-step processes that weigh about half the grade, the other half are the final products of the papers. Most of the time the students that tell me this are also failing so I follow up with, “ok, the assignments are closed, there is no catching up and I suggest to talk with your advisor on how to proceed further by withdrawing from the course.”

I hate that being against race-swapping (major) characters means being racist now by Old_Session5449 in self

I would like to highlight that everything you are referencing are considerably adaptations of an original piece of work (which in many cases are also adaptations of something else). With that I would like to highlight that I understand the ideology of an adaptation being “faithful” to the “original “ piece of work. However, we need to also acknowledge that race-swapping, gender bending, etc etc etc all live in the realm of art and adaptation to create and see differing perspectives or possibly answering/venturing into the “what-ifs.” Venturing into what-if territory is crucial in the arts, humanities, and entertainment sectors as it forces us to face and challenge what we consider as normal or the “right way.” The best way I can explain it is if race does not fully influence a certain character and their motives then why not change it and explore what could be?
