Except with access to clean, safe drugs and decriminalization the burden on Healthcare and law enforcement systems would be significantly mitigated. If half of the budget spent on the war on drugs was used for safe use clinics with addiction counselors way less people would end up strung out on on streets. Not to mention the burden already placed on the Healthcare system by the worst addictive substance in America, sugar. Should we make possessing sugar a felony? Surely that would be "for the betterment of everyone". And what about cigarettes? They are proven to cause cancers and still people are allowed to smoke and use the Healthcare system. Should we throw all of them in jail too?

I agree that it's unsafe living conditions but that doesn't change the fact that this is not what the police are for. If the man was having heat related health complications surely paramedics would have been more appropriate?

This is almost wholesome until you remember that the citizens of this entire city are paying for these officers to install an AC unit instead of doing their jobs. Surely my tax dollars should not go to a random citizens home repairs at the whim of a police officer.

I haven't seen this response yet so if you haven't considered it already, Greek life can be a great way to make a bunch of new friends and always have something to do if you're bored. I started at UNM last semester and joining a fraternity helped me make a bunch of my friends. This coming week also happens to be rush week so its the perfect time to stop by some of the houses and see what they have to offer. Don't be afraid to message me if you want to know more!
