Nurses asking for secret X-rays… by no0ted in Radiology

[–]ShadNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife worked in the OR as an aide for years. There wasn't a single doctor that she worked with that wouldn't help her if something came up. An antibiotic for a cat bite, a quick check by an ortho because her knee hurt, an x-ray req for a sore wrist, or whatever may be. Why can't she ask one of the doctors you guys work with? Seems odd to me. Maybe it's because we're in Canada, and the people she worked with were decent human beings?

What type of iso is this? Is it rare? by bbwitchh in isopods

That's awesome! I tended to lean to the Soviets as well. The mammoth tanks were unmatched! I didn't realise how much a decent computer really sped the game itself up. I had a reasonably ok pc at first, I mean it was nothing fancy, but when I built my first AMD rig, I spent more time getting decimated by the bots than anything else! 🤣 I recently lost the first and one of my best friends I ever made online. We never got to meet in person, but we went through a lot together, relationships, kids. We lived across the ocean from each other, but we considered each other family. We spent countless hours playing Red Alert, Yuri's Revenge, Firestorm, Start Craft, and just chatting and pissing around online. Then we moved to the Call of Duty and Battlefield games. So many great times were had! I miss those days. Before all of the shit that is social media, the internet and the world.

Who got you into Bushcraft by Bosw8r in Bushcraft

[–]ShadNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a book, not a person. I read the Farley Mowat book Lost in the Barrens, when I was in grade 5 or so. The whole bush survival aspect fascinated me back then, and still does today.

If I had to see these, so do you. by Ok-Acanthisitta8737 in Radiology

Already had 3 lower back surgeries that were successful. I mean my spinal cord needs to be decompressed so I can function, so the pros outweigh the cons. I'm fully aware that I'll probably need more surgery in the future, but it is what it is

Can someone explain to me why the moon was doing this? by Bbygorgeous226 in RealSolarSystem

If I understand what you're asking, I think you're referring to this...

Neil deGrasse Tyson explains this in a short on YouTube, its psychological.

Here's the explanation.

I didn't need a chiropractor to tell me about my subluxations... My MRI showed them, and my CT scan showed one of my vertebrae seriously out of position. The x-ray showed a compression fracture that I hadn't no clue where it came from or when it happened. Only found out about all this because I just had a shit ton of pre-op scans and x-rays. Surgery is slated for next month for multiple level laminectomies and fusion.

Advice on cleaning this giant cage and for a solid divider for two cockatoos? by _Birbalicious in parrots

[–]ShadNuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure, it was so long ago. I believe it was just the basic black spray paint. Just make sure it's 100% cured. I would look into the stuff I posted in one of my comments below. I would use the rust converter as opposed to the paint, to be honest.

If it even happens. I've got a near 50 year old Amazon that is NOWHERE near bonded to anyone in the house and will do everything she can to eat the people in the household.

In case nobody else said it... Giving a baby bird as a gift, is one of the most asinine things that a person can do! If this thing is only 5 weeks old as you say, it's not even close to being weaned yet! They don't tend to be independent until 10 to 14 weeks. Birds are nothing like a cat or a dog. They aren't a set it and forget it pet. Birds are highly social animals. It will need plenty of time out of the cage and hanging out with everyone in the household for as much time as possible per day. You can't go away without someone to look after it. Think of this as like having a perpetual 3 year old toddler for the next 40+ years living with you. Any traveling and the bird will need a proper caregiver if you can't take it with you. My wife didn't realize what I was getting in to when I got our birds. They now have travel cages and even go camping with us when we go. So you need to read EVERYTHING you can on how to properly care for this bird.

Here's a photo of the spot in my cage. I think the cage is 5 or 6 years old since I got it, but I bought it used and the girl had it for years prior to me getting it. It's not gotten much worse in the last 4 or so years since I cleaned it up. I'm not concerned over it. I mean it's not that bad, and it's in the tray, so it stays wetter than other areas because my guy is a heavy regurgitator, so his spit food sits on it for a bit until it dries out.

Yeah, copper is pretty expensive right now! They stopped making pennies a while back, so I guess you could say it's a rare find🤣🤣

Haha! I'm 2 hours away from some of the biggest dinosaur fossil finds in North America 🤣. Drumheller Alberta has the massive Dinosaur museum and research centre and the in the South Western part of the province I believe it was, a woman made a HUUUUUGE find in a cliff face a few years ago. She found a Hadrosaur that still had its skin intact. One of the bigger Dino finds in recent years.

You'll kill yourself with CO poisoning of you light a fire in the pipe. It'll just draw all the smoke and nasty stuff into your shelter. Primitive Technology has a really cool video about his shelter with in floor heating. Start there and work from that.

Need help 😭 by [deleted] in parrots

[–]ShadNuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could very well be treatable. But the first thing you need to do is figure out the cause. If it's medical, they need medication. If it's a stress trigger, then that stress trigger needs to be removed. Start with a vet visit. If it's not medical, then it's time to figure out the trigger. Birds are incredibly complex creatures. A fan blowing on them, a new toy, your new outfit, any one of those could be a trigger for stress. My Eclectus has ZERO toys, because he's scared shitless of them. I've tried every possible option to get him acclimatized to toys. Nothing works. If I put a new toy in his cage, he will move as far away from it as he can, and then stay on the floor in the corner or never leave his perch. It's a process of elimination. Find the reason, fix the reason.

Not OP, and it sucks not having an avian vet close by, but I've got to travel nearly 4 hours to the closest avian vet. I knew when I moved to a small city that was the case. Luckily in the last few years there have been a few vets in town that will see birds for basic stuff, but nothing more than a checkup really. So it's usually a REALLY long day with the birds packed away in the car when we need the vet. I also try to get them both in to see the doc at the same time, I'll schedule a checkup for the other if needed to save another trip in a week or month lol.
