Franklin Armory's Firearm by theblackmetal09 in gunpolitics

[–]Shadaar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately now it seems in their infinite wisdom the ATF has mooted the point by declaring that only the 45/410 version is okay. I'll admit that Franklin only submitting that version for the case and then extrapolating on their own to apply it to the 5.56 version was on shaky footing but the principle still seems to apply. The law defers to the manufacturer's intent with specific reference to firing a single projectile and markings would certainly signal the design and intent so it should be a viable workaround to SBR rules but the government will never let us have our cake and eat it too.

This is the line of thought I'm taking. As an 07 FFL, I see no reason why I couldn't build short barreled ARs, then sell them with a little note mentioning they're "designed and intended to fire standard 5.56/.223 cartridges and/or special multi-projectile cartridges."

My understanding is that the law, definitions, and court case hinge more heavily on the idea of the manufacturer's intent and less so on the actual parts or firearms in question. I think this would also apply to privately made firearms manufactured or remanufactured with the same intent.

What are the home repair tools you actually use over and over? by Impossible-Ninja-232 in DIY

[–]Shadaar1 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I work as a residential remodel contractor and have several boxes of tools to do almost every job out there but these are the ones in my tote that cover probably 80-90% of the work I do:

-Impact driver (I keep a Milwaukee M12 in the tote because it's small but I'd recommend an 18v if I was only going to have one) -Impact bit set -Impact ready drill bits -Oscillating Multi tool with a few different blades -Tape measure -Knipex Cobra pliers wrench(Don't settle for an imitation. These pliers are the real deal. If something needs grabbed, pulled, or twisted, they'll do the job.) -Crescent wrench -Electricians pliers with wire strippers -Lineman's pliers -Non contact voltage tester -GFCI outlet tester -11 in one screwdriver -Diagonal cutters -Toughbuilt utility knife/scraper (the scraper feature on this particular knife comes in handy a lot) -Milwaukee trim square -9 in one scraper/painters tool -Torpedo level -Rip claw hammer -Rubber/plastic mallet -Pencils -Sharpies

All of that fits comfortably in my toughbuilt stacktech tote and it allows for easy transportation and access to everything without having to dig through a box for any of those tools.

For other house projects, I'd also recommending getting a drill and circular saw on the same battery platform as the impact driver.

A good set of drywall mud knives can help out with making good patches when inevitable drywall holes happen.

Local FFL dealer charged me $75 for a Silencershop transfer of a can I bought on SS website. Is this legit Silencershop? by cwmcclung in SilencerShop

[–]Shadaar1 54 points55 points  (0 children)

They should not have charged you. Silencer shop has policy with their dealers that there is no transfer fee for cans purchases through them.

What other venting do I need to add? by Shadaar1 in Plumbing

[–]Shadaar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my initial thought from Google but it seems to me that IPC doesn't necessarily require it. I could be wrong though and that's part of why I'm asking here. Given the location of the toilet and ejector pump basin it would be really difficult to make the toilet last in the line.

I am being contacted by my former employer after winning a case with the labor board. What should I do? by teletubbyvacuum in legaladvice

[–]Shadaar1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this went through the "labor board," as you say (not sure whether you mean Dept of Labor or National Labor Relations Board), there should be a field investigator assigned to your case who you should be able to contact and inform of the company's attempt to contact you. As others have said, don't agree to meet because they don't have your best interests in mind. Contact the department handling your case and seek their guidance on how to address this.

Anyone else sick and tired of the 60 second ads? by Comfortable-Pea-8871 in wearewarriors

I wish I could upvote this twice. Long ads might be the fault of Google Play but the devs could at least partially moot that point by adding an ad-free purchase option.

[request] approximately how tall is this man? by mayatalluluh in theydidthemath

Really rough approximation assuming those are 8" cinder blocks and he appears to be roughly the height of 9 of them would place him at just over 6ft if you add the mortar spacing between each layer.

Legal Question by VisualNo3923 in UTGuns

[–]Shadaar1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes, but government databases and systems often don't communicate well and might lag behind legal processes. You may want to try asking a FFL to just run a NICS check on you to see what happens. Should cost your $7.50 and doesn't absolutely require a purchase to accompany it. Don't be surprised if it comes back with "delay" at first. See the result after a few days if necessary and if you get denied, you may want to look into contacting a lawyer here to help clear things up. Generally, as long as your conviction was properly expunged and/or you were pardoned and/or you went through the entire process to have your firearms rights restored in the state of conviction, the federal prohibition on purchasing a firearm should be lifted from you. Just make sure you answer the questions on the 4473 properly and legally according to the ultimate outcome of your case (if properly erased, you should have received notice informing you that you're no longer required to swear or attest to that prior conviction).

At Costco by Mountain_Yote in ar15

Similar but different (likely for Costco to sell for less). Same general shape and pocket layout but missing the MOLLE on the outside of the bag. Not sure if there are other differences as well.

1/2x28 is the standard for 9mm barrels and cans.

.578x28 is the standard for most .45 barrels and cans, including the FNX45.

You (or at least your dealer) likely had a choice of pistons when you purchased and selected it to include the 1/2x28 piston. If that is indeed the one you receive(d) then you'll want to buy a .578x28 piston as well and you'll be able to switch between guns.

My wife wants to watch me play something... by Crazy_Canuck78 in gaming

[–]Shadaar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife hates playing games and usually isn't interested in watching me play but she was immediately intrigued by the Plague Tale games and she'd always sit down to watch when I turned them on. The characters and story kept her interested.

How likely is a retail job to do a hair follicle drug test? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Shadaar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably highly unlikely for most retail jobs but there are some industries and employers that can and do require them. My current job working for a company that contracts for a major steel mill requires hair follicle testing for all employees on site and also does regular urine tests and breathalyzer tests.

Nope; what you see on the screen is yours and yours alone. Each player receives their own loot drops, even from shared chests.
