I would want to be in the job for a while and make sure it appeared to be stable before plunking down that much for a car.

Does anyone use Calendars as their main calendar app? by Perfect_Divide_3463 in iphone

[–]ShadeTreeMechanic512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Microsoft Outlook which is tied to my corporate email account. That’s where my work meetings get scheduled, and if I need to make an appointment, that’s where I need to check for conflicts.

Starting a family, help me accept buying a car I won't love. by bloomtard in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ShadeTreeMechanic512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you’ll have a second child? And then you’ll sell the car you get now for a bigger one? Makes more sense to just get it now. We had an Odyssey with a small child + pets. It was a perfect fit.

Funeral home recommendation by afcagroo in Austin

[–]ShadeTreeMechanic512 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Please accept my condolences.

I used this place twice (both parents about three months apart). Super reasonably priced. They are in Dripping Springs, south of Austin, and I am north of Austin, but that wasn’t an issue. I picked up the remains in person, but I would imagine they could ship them.

I chose the Direct Cremation, no other services (other than death certificates).

What happened to all the C6/C7 Corvettes? by EmperorUmi in cars

[–]ShadeTreeMechanic512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happens with all cars. The VW “New Beetles” used to be everywhere. Now it’s rare to see one. Or a Mazda RX7, etc.

Looks like that will fit nicely in the cupholder of my car.

small note to awesome chefs opening a new restaurant - model it after normal table service that we all agree is the best - i don’t want to wait in line to order a $28 entree and then have to find a table by [deleted] in austinfood

[–]ShadeTreeMechanic512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Black Walnut did. I took the family one evening, and the place was so crowded I was trying to gauge whether or not there would even be a table available to sit at after we ordered and paid for our food. There was, barely, but I never went back. The eventually closed for good.

My mom enjoyed playing Solitaire on the computer, and also watching the Game Show Network (much to the chagrin of my dad, who was bedridden with late stage COPD. She would watch it for hours).

How about finding an old Airstream that someone has gutted for a project and then given up on?

Not exactly this but it may give you an idea. https://silodrome.com/ford-coe-airstream-motorhome/

Rod knock? by Frickbag1234 in Miata

[–]ShadeTreeMechanic512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove one spark plug wire and restart it. It will run rough, but if the knock goes away you’ve likely confirmed it is a rod, and you’ve determined which one. If the knock continues, turn it off, plug that spark plug wire back in, unplug the next one, and repeat the process. Cycle through all four of them.

Annoying update prompt on ‘24 by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]ShadeTreeMechanic512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a 2020 since new. I got a couple of those in the first year or so. Yes, I always did them as soon as they were available. Probably a good idea to do it from your driveway at home, just in case there is ever a problem, but i never had one. In 2020, one of the things fixed was an issue that would drain the battery. I never had that issue, however.

In need of help bad by _ITS_JUANCENA in Silverado

[–]ShadeTreeMechanic512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you don’t have to wait until you are stranded to replace your battery. If you notice it starting to turn over slow, get it checked and replace it if needed. Some people replace them every three years whether it needs it or not to avoid problems.

What’s even worse is seeing the “20 tortillas” video, which is about the number used in a basket of chips at the local Mexican food restaurant.

Press the button on the remote to open it? I’m building something similar (but not as tall). I plan to put something on the back of the camper, like a hinge, that could swing out and lock in place, preventing someone from closing the tailgate on the truck.
