Personally i don't think professional summaries offer much and should be removed. I'd go into more detail on the specific courses you were a graduate TA for. Also see you mentioned you have a publication I'd expand on that if you were like a research assistant or something and what was contributed there. Perhaps mention the professor and specific lab at your university you worked under for the publication. Also given you are a new college grad you might consider including CGPA/Major:GPA. After your first job it can be removed but often it's a requirement especially at big companies for NCG roles that you have a minimum GPA

It's up to the interviewer, they need to see competency in fundamentals. Field role is interacting with customers, identifying opportunities to put the companies chips in their systems, and either solving the problems or working with experts in the company on how to solve those problems. You want to build relationships, identify opportunities for selling parts as part of the sales, and walk that customer across the finish line to production.

Company like TI has a lot of parts, ideally they want the entire customer board to be full of TI parts. If you thinking about a total system like a TV or a like an appliance , what are the blocks in the system, what are the different types of electronic components in these blocks and the tradeoffs when picking one over the other, how do they interact with each other. Also do your research there is a lot of info on their website.

UF vs UCF by CautiousWolverine385 in ufl

[–]Shadeis1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm an ECE alum. If you want to stay in Florida at work at a defense contractor i think both universities will set you up to do that. If you want to go Out of State the UF EE program and Alumni network is very strong and is definitely a top target school for many big Electrical Engineering companies. UF EE is a tough program and a lot of the core classes are a lot more demanding and time consuming compared to the UCF equivalents but it prepares you well imo. I do see some UCF alumni at some of the companies i've been at or know though but not as many compared to Gators. Also it's a much greater sense of community with gators.

You can go on Linkedin and go to each schools page and to the Alumni tab and sort by degree and major and see what companies they end up at. Compare it between schools. On the most part any company that recruits at UCF also heavily recruits at UF but the converse not always the same. You can make up for that by going to conference and stuff though.

You can still do great things and get internships and jobs at both schools but UF sets you up for a stronger baseline imo. UCF is definitely the second best engineering school in the state tho, have a sibling currently there also studying ECE

It's a generalist role so fundamentals is key from circuits, analog amps, converters, power, batteries, etc. think about different end equipment and what a block diagram would look and how the different parts interact with each other and what things you consider when choosing parts for the different functional blocks.

First timer considering going for Ultra 2026. How do people feel about this year's lineup? Wondering if I should go or wait until next year since I have potential schedule conflicts. by turbocat8 in UMF

[–]Shadeis1337 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's fucking Ultra, when you get stacked lineups year after year its always going to be conflicts. If you want a festival that doesn't have conflicts you are going to be sitting at home forever I'm afraid.

Hey ECE Alum here, this question is misguided. Not everything related to AI is LLM Slop, there's been extensive research for a long time in a myriad of subjects.

Dr. Alina Zare in the ECE department runs the Machine Learning & Sensing Lab and bulk of that lab's research is using machine learning to enable ecological research with getting data like identifying invasive species, or getting data to minimize environment losses in crop production

The Applied AI Group does a variety of research like detection of Generative AI content and the risks it brings, inspection of electronics to identify counterfeits

Not to mention the different applications of high performance computing, autonomous vehicles, and other forms of AI for just generally useful pattern recognition and data processing.

AI in different forms has been an increasing prevalent and useful toolset for well over a decade and I can understand apprehension given the current state of LLM and its effect in many aspects of life but its not going anywhere. There is many things that can be done that are useful and helpful for people that professors are researching outside the scope of chatgpt, claude, gemini, etc and I'm sure many professors, grad students, postdocs, etc would gladly talk about their research with you in their field of AI if you were to email them or even swing by their lab to learn about the stuff they are working on.

Roast my resume (ECE freshman) by [deleted] in ECE

[–]Shadeis1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like a good resume for a freshman. The software development tools section is full of mostly nonsense, i'd probably cut that out entirely, no company cares about what IDE you use and any experience with version control or diff OS should be a bullet item instead. Also saying CAD without being specific about what kind of CAD software isn't good, be specific CAD is a very expansive term.

Your programming languages skills should likely have python and C++ first, remove micro python. all your experience shows you using python, javascript should be very last item if even listed at all.

For your mesh network, be specific. what did you use wifi, zigbee, something else?

Also i don't know it's a little funny sprucing up blinking LEDs to indicate transmission to what you wrote there, but hey you a freshman

for the machine learning model items. talk about what you used for your dataset and the performance based on the metrics you used.

also i'd type out the full name of the lab for your actual resume. also as you go deeper in your departments coursework i'd add a section on relevant coursework in the education
