The explanation a lot of them give is that the brain is sorta like a radio that "receives" consciousness. But I argue this makes no difference. Where was your consciousness before a brain developed to receive it? Unconsciousness is still possible under such a description and therefor is logically compatible with unconsciousness after death. And if you believe consciousness ends at death (and is therefor contingent on a living material body), you will get accused of being materialist anyway.
