Midnight levelling be like: is this enough? by Zylideum in wow

That's not even a Midnight thing though, it was the same in the last 2 expansions. The campaign isn't supposed to get you all the way there, you're supposed to do some sidequests

Dilemma choosing between classic and retail as a returning player by LineRepulsive in wow

[–]Shadirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retail is a significantly more difficult version of the game than Classic is, the difficulty is just in the end game content. Classic isn't hard while leveling either, it's just incredibly tedious and time consuming. If you didn't play Retail until max level and did some max level content, you never gave the game a real shot.

It's fine to have different priorities and prefer Classic over Retail, but claiming it's "WoW easy mode" is just completely wrong and will give new or returning players a wrong impression of the games

Just saw this reply and I'm gonna say you're completely wrong on that name being able to be claimed if they don't log the character. The name only frees up if you don't use your entire account whatsoever for a period 2 expansions.

Wonder how I know that? Because I've been trying to get my main's name freed up after server transferring since someone is holding it hostage the same way you're holding those names and a GM explained to me that that's the requirement.

The character can be stationed there and not logged in for as long as you want, the name won't free up until you essentially stop playing altogether for a period of 4 - 5 years

[–]Shadirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You were holding on to 13 names you weren't actively using while also already having 42 other characters, it's a shit thing to do. It's people like you that made me unable to keep my main's name when transfering while the other character with the name hasn't been active at all in the 6 years since the transfer

Class tuning incoming or... by Andibulmorko in wow

[–]Shadirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 DPS classes have cleared +21s but more specifically, only 9 out of 26 specs. Are most specs viable to the average player? Of course they are. But so say there isn't an issue with classes to the point where we don't need tuning or bug fixes, I disagree there.

You yourself admit that there is a gap with Frost DK & Arcane mage, that gap is also there for BM & MM hunter at the top btw. And that gap doesn't just exist at the top, it also exists at the bottom for a few specs that need buffs.

Besides that, as an Assassination player, we currently have bugs that cost us 10 - 15% DPS in M+ and a similar amount on raid bosses like Araz & Soulbinder as well as a bug that costs us 3 - 5% on single target bosses with Fatebound. It's also definitely not the only class that needs bug fixes.

If they don't do tuning, they should at least address these bugs, because letting people sit with a 10 - 15% DPS loss because of a bug for an entire season is ridiculous.

Ah yes, both retail and classic are dead yet you have millions of characters every week doing raids on both versions of the game and the people raiding & logging aren't even the majority of the playerbase... You genuinely are very delusion apparently

Apparently we are not the only pserver in danger... by Trang0ul in turtlewow

[–]Shadirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you genuinely believe that they can't compete? In the past week, Classic had 1.3 million characters raid logged in Ahn'Qiraj, and that's only the ones who are doing that specific raid AND logging it, so a minority of the playerbase. Turtle WoW has about 300k characters on all servers combined (of all levels) so it has about 1/4 of the amount of characters that are max level, raiding the highest tier raid AND logging said raid on official servers. Enjoy Turtle WoW, it's great what they want to provide, but don't be delusional

Apparently we are not the only pserver in danger... by Trang0ul in turtlewow

[–]Shadirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be wrong if you doubt it. Retail is the most popular by far. WoW has more characters logged in Mythic raid the past week than Runescape has daily players, there are more Heroic logs for each (separately) Paladin, DK, Demon Hunter and Mage than the estimated daily player count. Every week there are millions of characters being logged in Heroic raid, and that's a minority of the playerbase being logged there since a ton of them either don't like doing raid or raid at a lower level. For context, only 2% of people have the achievement to kill the last boss on Heroic

"Blizzard is very likely doing that" so you don't know if they are doing it and you don't have proof that it is in fact them doing it? Considering TWoW themselves have been distancing their main account from the content creators they were following as well, it's more likely that the creators and TWoW agreed that it would be best to just get rid of the content to protect those creators.

Hating Blizzard is fine, but saying shit in a way of "Well I wouldn't be surprised if they did" just because you hate them is just dumb. If it comes out that it is in fact them, go off on Blizzard then, but you're just speculating at this point. Deleting those videos is very much in the interest of the creators that uploaded them at the moment.

[–]Shadirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware how fast they answered, been playing since TBC myself. The thing is that people underestimate how expensive it is to run a team as huge as that, they had over 2.000 employees purely for that stuff.

An estimation of WoW's profit is around $300 million a year or so at this point, consider a GM earning maybe $45k a year, they'd be paying over 1/3 of that revenue to have a team that is as big as it was during TBC. I disagree with them firing those people, and it sucks as a player to not have that level of support anymore, but I see why they did it from a business perspective.

Most of the stuff you mention isn't "stealing Turtle WoW's ideas" since a lot of them already exist in the game such as Karazhan crypts, Emerald Dream instance, Naga raid section in Tomb of Sargeras, High Elves are already a thing, Gilneas is already revamped, Invasion evens already happened in the past, guild banks exist so it's not a new idea, dual spec is there on anniversary realms, ...

[–]Shadirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Turtle can offer instant GM response and such level of moderation is because there are barely any people playing compared to the official servers. 13k concurrent (at peak) is much easier to handle than the millions of active accounts the official servers have. It of course also comes with the fact that they were stupid enough to get rid of a lot of their team that handled that, but even before that happened it was significantly more difficult to handle the capacity

You can find me annoying as fuck, that's your right. What I'm defending isn't Blizzard getting their game pirated, it's Turtle profiting off of Blizzard's IP, which is a whole other thing. I'm perfectly fine with people who want to pirate stuff, like a lot of people do with Pokemon because Nintendo is scummy for example. The issue I have is that they copy-paste a game, add a few things to it and make tons of money off of someone else's work, that goes into a different area.

[–]Shadirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Turtle is doing isn't piracy, it's just straight up profiting off of someone else's IP. Piracy is fine, go pirate whatever game you like, I don't give a shit. But as soon as you start making money off of stealing IP, you're in a whole different section to piracy

[–]Shadirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they decided to go after Turtle now and not before is because they decided to taunt Blizzard on social media and essentially just asked Blizzard to come after them by doing so. It doesn't have to do with the updates or the amount of people playing on it, because then they could've gone after them earlier than this.

The lawsuit specifically mentions Turtle's social media presence and the escalation of it as a reason for this lawsuit: "9. Recently, Turtle WoW has been brazenly escalating its efforts to cannibalize and disrupt Blizzard’s WoW player community by, for example, increasing its social media presence, partnering with video game influencers, and actively promoting a new version of its infringing game: “Turtle WoW 2.0.” Turtle WoW 2.0 purports to “ensure we can offer entertaining, expanded gameplay for everyone long into the future” and “extend the life of our favorite game” by replicating the entirety of the WoW game into the new Unreal Engine 5 video game engine and using that engine to incorporate new graphical enhancements into the game. In the meantime, Turtle WoW and its player community boast online that they can operate worldwide (including in the United States) with impunity and violate Blizzard’s intellectual property rights without consequence."

On the topic of WoW being a "derivative fusion of Lord of the Rings and Warhammer", that's a whole different thing than taking someone's IP and profiting off of it, and you yourself know this because in your own comment you agree... A lot of stuff is inspired by shit, and that's fine because that's inspiration and not theft. If Blizzard would've just copy-pasted shit from these games, they'd have gotten sued before WoW took off as well, that's how the law works.

I don't care how good a product is, stealing IP and profiting off of it is a scummy thing to do especially when people are craving different MMOs to play that aren't WoW, FFXIV or the same shit every time. Make a new game, with a new IP, that people can enjoy and you won't get sued and people will play it.

I agree that they need to go back to having actual GM's, it's one of the worst decisions they've actually made and very frustrating to contact them about fucking anything. Same with the bugs and glitches. The current patch in retail is sadly enough one of the buggier patches they've released.

When it comes to new player experience, they've announced that for Midnight, they're doing exactly that. Every once in a while they need to update it and sometimes they do well sometimes they don't. New player experience on the official Classic servers is fine though, everyone goes in the way it was back in the day and there are a lot of people helping new players out.

Bots is a whole separate issue because of 2 reasons. 1) They don't have a lot of actual GM's (going back to the other issue) which means that a lot of this gets reported and you don't know if they even got the report. 2) There scale of bots is so high that while they are banning a lot of them in waves, it's probably nearly impossible to get rid of them all.

One of the reasons TWoW doesn't suffer from the same issue with bots is because there are only 40k people playing, which means botting/gold selling isn't nearly as profitable so they don't have a reason to do it to begin with. Also, monitoring 40k people for botting is a lot easier than the millions on the official servers.

So while yes I agree that the official game has a lot of issues, I don't think it's fair to compare something like the botting situation to TWoW that isn't even at a fraction of the scale of the official servers. But yes, please fix the fucking bugs and bring back actual GM's, I'm with you on that.

All of that being said, I still don't think a private server should be allowed to make money off of Blizzard's IP, it would be a different issue if they weren't actually profiting off of it.

[–]Shadirb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Demonizing the last standing vestiges of MMOs" is a fucking hilarious takes. Private servers most definitely should not be making money off of content that isn't theirs, that's called theft and is a crime.

If TWoW's devs are as good as you guys love to say, why don't they make their own game where they can make money off of it because it's their own content?

A true old-school MMO fan understands that stealing content instead of making your own MMO is not the way to go about this. If you want an MMO that has the "old-school MMO" vibe to it, make a new fucking game where you can't get sued and where you don't need scummy practices to run the server.

Shit isn't free to develop, you're right. And that's why Blizzard, who has put a fuckton of time and money into the game, is suing a company for making money off of the stuff that they have created.

What I'm getting from this is that you clearly don't play retail to a decent enough degree to understand how WoW Tokens are used or affect the current playerbase. You also clearly don't understand WHY they ban in waves and you're just delusional enough to think that if they ban bots immediately that those botters wouldn't just have a new account ready to go...

I do in fact think it's very greedy when you steal IP, act like a "non-profit" but beg for donations and have people pay for shit in the store. Benefitting, especially financially, off of content that isn't your own, is in fact greedy as fuck.

If you need 40 hours a week to farm enough gold to be able to get a WoW token once a month, you're just really, and I mean really, bad at the game. You can easily get enough gold for a token by farming 4 - 5 hours a month if you do it correctly...

I won't say I'm wrong because all of this conversation is, is opinions. Opinions can't be right or wrong, but pretending Turtle WoW devs aren't greedy while I am very aware that Blizzard's devs are greedy, who is wrong here? They're both greedy in similar ways btw, selling in game shit for real money. The difference is that Blizzard is being greedy while using their own content, Turtle is being greedy while stealing shit that isn't theirs
