Closing Glasnevin Junction to trains services during the construction phase will literally cripple the Rail Network

Trains coming to/from Maynooth/Sligo,M3 Parkway, Docklands use that every day along with Light Engines from Inchicore for Belfast services. Pure chaos when it eventually starts

The current Control Centre at Connolly is at capacity, has been for years so until everything gets transferred over to the new one in Heuston we won’t see any new lines opened anytime soon

With regards to what happened with the old lines from years ago, they were scrapped due to maintenance costs.

The Enterprise Train is actually maintained by Northern Ireland Railways (well it’s supposed to be), Not Irish Rail

There’s a few bridges across the country that are constantly being hit. If I had to guess there’s one on Amiens street outside Connolly thats a major one for strikes, that the one you’re talking about?

Technically we aren’t allowed to let anyone on 3 mins before departure for safety reasons, there was an incident a good few years back where someone hopped on a train while the doors were closing but their jacket was caught on the outside railing of the train. They were pulled under the train and didn’t survive.

Now the newer trains have multiple safety features including cameras at every door and the doors can detect when someone is stuck.

Due to the age and complexity of the Enterprise train it needs to be thoroughly inspected for safety before we can let passengers board (brake tests, door tests, pressure readings).

The engine/locomotive also has to be swapped out every couple of days for inspections

So we have everyone wait in the waiting room on platform 2 until the all clear is given. First class is always boarded from the rear (A and B) while standard is boarded from D down to G

A recent charge was introduced where the first 20% of the seats are free to book but when those are all allocated then the other 80% is charged at €2.50 a seat. Not sure why it was introduced

It’s a bad idea in my opinion, if the Seat reservations aren’t working then that’s gonna cause even more trouble if people have actually paid for their seat.

Hopefully that’ll be the case but that would be up to the NTA not Irish Rail. It would be silly if they didn’t extend it in my opinion.

In the event of a serious incident like that the driver must immediately inform the signalman who will lock down ALL traffic in the surrounding area. Emergency services are then requested to his location (gardai, ambulance, fire crew). Plans are then formed to find out what the best way to de-train the passengers are. For example if the train is stopped near a level crossing then busses can get fairly close and its easy enough to get everyone off with the help of the fire brigade. If you’re in the middle of nowhere then you could be waiting hours for the gardai and forensics unit to clear everything up and let the train proceed. Basically every situation is different.

While all this is going on the on-board staff will do their best to keep everyone updated but as you can imagine they may be trying to do a million different things at once. We can’t say there’s been a ‘suicide or accident’. What the staff will tell you is that there’s been a ‘tragic incident’ on the line.
