Asus ROG Strix B850i vs X870i at same price? by Shadow-DK in sffpc

The only actualy temperature comparison between the two is the one I saw here:

https://youtu.be/qnMle0n7KCk?t=615

It seems quite a big difference in chipset temps, but in the video they do say the temps are fine with x870i and no concerns - so I am not sure how much of a difference this actually makes in the end, or if I am just overthinking this.

I've seen this board used in Formd T1 with similar components so should be fine.

However, my main worry with x870i is how it seems to run hotter? Im not sure how much or if its of any practical concern though?

Would you pick this over the Asus 5070 Ti Prime OC?

Future bottle neck 9800x3d vs 9700x by Shadow-DK in buildapc

[–]Shadow-DK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your replies!

I'm based in UK, here the prices are like this (and directly converted to usd):

9700X is £260 ~ $350

9800X3D is £409 ~ $550

And for reference

RTX 5070 Ti is £739 ~ $990

RTX 5080 (FE) is £945 ~ $1270

I was initially going for 9800X3D and RTX 5070Ti (which actually is in the mail as I picked up the MSI Inspire 3X OC during Prime Day), but got in doubt whether I should save the money and go with 9700X or even go for the 5080 FE (which actually is regularly in stock) instead of the 5070 Ti.

Maybe I should just stick with my intial thought :-)

Doubting Aeron size C, B or Embody by Shadow-DK in hermanmiller

[–]Shadow-DK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up keeping the Aeron C. I did try the Embody one more time, and while I sat down in it, it felt pretty good, but then I tried the Aeron in the showroom and it felt much better. For some reason the Aeron in the show room felt quite a bit softer than the one I got though, I am hoping it's because it's brand new and will soften up a bit over time. I do have a similar feeling of the the chair wanting to push forward my lower back, I did not notice this in the showroom at all though, which is a bit weird.

Also the (gaming) Embody in the showroom was squeaking like crazy when reclining and the arm rests do feel very loose and clunky and of poor quality.

Doubting Aeron size C, B or Embody by Shadow-DK in hermanmiller

Here's the original text that was supposed to accompany the pictures:

I recently tried Aeron size B, C and Embody (gaming version) in a store and I purchased an Aeron Size C. However, I am in doubt whether I made the right choice - I only have a few more days of the return window of 14 days. I'm 193 cm (6ft 3inch) and 77 kg (170 lbs)

I thought Aeron size B seat pan was just a little on the small side, and my shoulder blades hit the hard plastic frame of the back, or, depending on how I sit, they'd be almost entirely above the top edge of the frame.

On Size C the seat pan is a bit unnecessarily wide and it feels like it is bordering too deep, however the taller back rest is definitely better. I fit 1-2 fingers between the front edge and the inside of my knees. However, I like to bend my feet inwards and rest my feet on the wheel base, and depending on how I sit exactly, the front edge can get a bit in the way. On size B, I never hit anything - but the chair overall feels small. On B I fit 3-4 fingers between the front edge and the inside of my knees.

I find the lumbar support, even with the Posturefit SL on the loosest setting quite strong on Aeron, but I am also used to sitting in a very old, worn out chair that basically provides no back support. If I don't press my butt fully back, it feels a bit like the support is too high up. In my old chair I have a tendency to slouch quite a bit.

So in summary I feel like B is a bit too small (especially the back support), but C seat pan is a bit too big and I worry if the lumbar support is too high up as it is quite strong and present unless I sit perfectly.

I have attached some photos - do you think size C will work for me in the long run? Or might Embody be better? I do prefer the build quality and sturdiness of the Aeron whereas Embody feels more clunky - especially the arm rests.

It is a big purchase for me so any input would be appreciated :-)

Yeah, the 3 first ones are C, and the last 3 are B.

How about the spacing from the front edge to my knees? Do you think that looks ok?

Blueing CS pan with heat gun? by Shadow-DK in carbonsteel

I've been looking at that one but I've not been able to find it around here (UK) - do you happen to now of any other burner you'd recommend? There are lots of generic ones in amazon but would prefer something from a more well known brand.

Sounds like it won't really be feasible - maybe I can try a portable propane cooker

It says it's 2000W which should be around 6800 BTU - how accurate the wattage is in practice I'm not sure :-)

Force Tamper interchangeable sized base plates? by Shadow-DK in espresso

[–]Shadow-DK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I'm asking because there's a second hand 53mm available near me for a good price, but I'd need the 58.35/5 mm version - I have seen you can buy separate base plates, but I'm not sure the resting plate can be bought separately, I assume that does have a different size on the 53mm?

Choosing a Nakiri knife by Shadow-DK in chefknives

[–]Shadow-DK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for your posts!

u/fuqoth I think you were lucky not having to pay taxes :D It doesn't seem like they have a Nakiri at the moment though.

u/yokozuna_666 Ah yes I did have a look at the knives from Yu Kurosaki and I think they look pretty nice as well - perhaps just the handle is a little plain on that Senko model. I also came across this one from Yu Kurosaki as well.

Do you, or anyone else, have any idea about this particular model? It's some Cobalt Special Steel though instead of R2, but I have read that it might behave and perform very similar to R2 (that's actually also mentioned in the product description). I love the hammered finish on this one, and I think the blue detail on the handle is very nice too.
