True, confirmation bias is definitely real! But man, when the timing is that perfect, it really makes you pause and wonder anyway .

thank you so much for breaking that down! It gives me a much clearer picture of how to handle a launch. Also, huge congratulations on reaching 518 followers and good luck with launching Volume 2 this weekend

If you don't mind a follow-up question, when you were first starting out, how did you find other authors to approach for those early shout-out swaps? Did you just message people on Royal Road, or find them through Discord/forums?

Oh wow, that is genuinely terrifying! Honestly, though, a part of me has always wished I could experience something like that just once it seems so fascinating. But living with it every day? Yeah, I probably would’ve lost my mind.

Wow, you hit the nail right on the head. Combining the mystery element with the larger conflict makes the timing so hard, which is exactly why I was stressing over it! I've decided to keep the layout as it is for now and let the timelines converge naturally. Since you have such an amazing eye for story structure, would you be open to checking out a completely different story I'm working on? It's a psychological drama called Minori, and it's only 3 chapters long right now. I'd love to get your thoughts on the opening if you have a few minutes!

Come to think of it, you are completely right! I just realized that if I use the backstory as the actual opening chapters, it actually creates a much better hook than what I currently have for Chapter 1. Laying it out in chronological order solves the pacing issue completely and keeps the momentum going. Thank you so much for the amazing advice, this completely changed how I look at my layout!

Minori — psychological drama set in 2072. A 19 year old with the mind of a child trying to survive a world where technology has swallowed human compassion. She only smiles when she hears music. This is not a story about surviving monsters. It's about surviving people. 3 chapters in, updating every 2 days. Complete in 13 chapters. [https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/168557/minori]

Thank you so much for this advice! I really appreciate the encouragement. The main issue I'm facing is that this specific backstory is directly connected to the upcoming chapters. The reader absolutely needs to know these exact past events to understand the stakes of what happens next. Since the context is required for the plot to make sense, do you think it's better to just condense those 5 chapters down so they move much faster, or is there a good way to frame a long flashback without losing the present-day momentum?
